What does my little athlete wear if they don't have a uniform yet?

Whatever is comfortable and suits the weather. No need to wait on a uniform to start.

What do I do when I arrive on the day?

Head straight to your Age Group's cone on the pitch. Saturday meets start promptly at 8:30am, so please arrive early enough to settle your little athlete in with their age group beforehand.

Why is it important to register before the season starts?

Registration needs to be completed before the season kicks off, as it's what covers your little athlete under our insurance. Children cannot participate in training or competition until they're registered.

What age group is my little athlete in?

Age groups for 2026/27 are set out in the table below. Note there's no U13 age group, as part of the alignment between Little Athletics NSW (LANSW) and Athletics NSW (ANSW), see Little Athletics NSW (lansw.com.au) for details.

To register, athletes must be at least 3 years old by 30 September. If your child isn't eligible this season, we'd love to welcome them next season.

How do I know what events my little athlete can compete in, and what weights they'll use? See the guides below:

Are age groups separated by gender?

No, boys and girls compete separately, as they use different weights.

Can my child compete with friends in a different age group?

Unfortunately not. Age groups exist so every child competes with the right equipment (like weights), distances and activities for their age. Mixing groups makes this hard to manage fairly and accurately.

Can a friend come along to trial little athletics with us?

Yes, trials are open to anyone who hasn't registered before. This season's trial day is Friday 19th September. Just bring them along and speak to a committee member in the middle shed; we'll take a few details and they can jump straight in.

How long does the season run?

From 12thSeptember 2026 to 20th March 2027.

How long does a Saturday meet go for?

It varies by age group, number of participants and the day's events, but most age groups wrap up by 10:30-11:00am.

Can we leave early on a Saturday?

Yes, just let your Age Manager know so they can keep track of who's still competing.

Do I need to let anyone know if we can't make it on a Saturday?

No, we know little athletes get busy (and sick!), so no notice is needed.

Does registration include weekday training?

Yes. Training runs Monday–Thursday, 5–7pm. We're finalising specific nights and will let you know as soon as possible.

Monday - Tots 5-6pm is confirmed.

Does registration include a uniform?

No, uniforms are purchased separately via Sports Magic: https://sportsmagic.com.au/collections/randwick-botany-little-athletics-centre. Sports Magic will also be on site Saturday 19th September 08:00-11:00am if you'd rather buy in person. Note: a singlet/crop top is required to compete at Zones, Regionals and State.

Is the uniform compulsory?

Yes. Little athletes wear the RBLAC singlet, t-shirt or crop top displaying their registration number and age patch, paired with RBLAC shorts or plain black shorts.

What footwear is suitable?

Normal running shoes are fine; track/field shoes or spikes also work well for 11s+.

Where do I collect my registration pack, and what's in it?

Your Age Manager will distribute these on our first meet 12th September, as long as registration and payment are complete. Your pack includes a registration bib (McDonald's) and age patch (Coles), which need to be attached to your uniform:

McDonald's registration number: centre front of the singlet or crop top (required for all LANSW registered members, including Tiny Tots)
Coles age patch: left side of the singlet or crop top
If space is tight on a crop top and both patches won't fit, the registration number can be resized, but sponsor logos, the registration number and season date must stay visible
Planning to swap between uniforms (crop top/singlet/t-shirt)? Use safety pins instead of sewing so you can move the patches easily.

⚠️ Please attach these to your uniform as soon as possible after collecting your pack. They're easily lost if left loose, and your little athlete cannot compete without them.

Is my National ID number the same as my registration number?

No, your National ID stays with you permanently, while your registration number changes each season.

Where can I check weekly results?

Age Managers and Parent Helpers record results, which are then entered into Results HQ by a volunteer during the week, usually available by midweek.

Do parents need to help out?

Yes, we're a volunteer-run club, and every parent's contribution matters, even if you've never done athletics before (we'll show you the ropes!). Please stay with your child rather than leaving them solely with the Age Manager; parents remain responsible for their own athlete throughout.

How will RBLAC keep me updated on key dates and events?

Via Latest News, Upcoming events, Whatsapp Age Group Group Chat, your primary email, Instagram and Facebook.

How do I know if little athletics is on this week?

We aim to compete every Saturday, but safety comes first in bad weather. The committee decides by 8:00am each Saturday. If conditions affect the whole day's events, we'll notify you by email and post on Instagram and Facebook. If you don't see a cancellation notice, we're on as normal.

Where can I find dates for representative carnivals?

These are set by LANSW, see Little Athletics NSW (lansw.com.au) for the calendar.

Are there end-of-season awards?

Yes! We love celebrating everyone's achievements. Date, time and venue will be announced later in the season.

I think there's an error in my child's results, who should I contact?

Email randwickbotanylac@gmail.com or speak to a committee member in the middle shed. Results are recorded by hand first, then transferred electronically, with both copies kept for the season so they can be cross-checked.

I have a complaint or some feedback, who can I talk to?

All feedback is handled fairly and confidentially. Email randwickbotanylac@gmail.com, or approach a committee member in the middle shed directly.
