Pickleball Australia – Tribunal Pool Member Position
Pickleball Australia (PA) is seeking individuals to join its Tribunal Pool to serve on case panels for disciplinary matters, appeals, and disputes. Tribunal Pool Members review evidence, determine breaches of PA policies, and impose appropriate outcomes in line with principles of fairness and natural justice.
Role Responsibilities
Case Panel Duties

Review all materials and evidence provided by the PA Operations Team for referred matters

Determine whether a breach of PA policies has occurred, or - in the case of appeals - whether an original decision should be upheld, modified, or overturned

Apply relevant factors including: nature of conduct, impact on participants, intent, need for deterrence, prior disciplinary history, and principles of fairness and consistency

Make decisions by unanimous agreement (2-member panels) or majority decision (3+-member panels)

Provide written decisions with clear reasoning, outcomes imposed, and information about further appeal rights
Outcomes and Sanctions
Case panels may impose one or more of the following: additional disciplinary points, suspensions from participation, behavioural programs, monetary fines, removal of ranking points, prohibition from specific events, written apologies, or other appropriate outcomes. Panels may also uphold, modify, or overturn appeals, and facilitate dispute resolution through mediation or determination.

Represent PA with integrity and impartiality at all times

Essential Requirements
Attributes

Understanding of PA policies, codes of conduct, and governance structures
-
Ability to assess evidence objectively and make decisions based on facts and policy

Knowledge of, or willingness to be trained in, natural justice principles and procedural fairness

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Commitment to confidentiality and ethical conduct
-
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a panel
-
Availability to review matters within required timeframes (decisions are targeted within 21 days of receipt of all materials)

Strong integrity standing with PA and its member organisations
Background Checks
Experience
-
Background in law, law enforcement, governance, safeguarding, complaints handling, or dispute resolution is preferred but not essential
-
Senior State Executive members and PA members with relevant expertise are encouraged to apply
Term
Pool members serve a term of 2 years and may serve a maximum of 4 consecutive terms (8 years total). Members are eligible for reappointment after a break in service. Annual renewal is subject to adherence to confidentiality obligations, availability, completion of required training, and good standing under PA policies.
Training & Development
PA will provide all pool members with:

Comprehensive onboarding including welcome package, Terms of Reference, and policy acknowledgements

Training in natural justice principles, procedural fairness, and evidence assessment
-
Training in relevant PA policies

Guidance on tribunal processes, decision-making, and use of decision templates
-
Ongoing support from the PA Operations Team, including access to legal or professional advice as required

Updates on policy changes and amendments
