PAA Officiating Accreditation Program

Officiating in Australia

Hand in hand with the growth of pickleball has been the demand for competitive playing opportunities for participants of all ages and abilities. Establishment of a formalised Officiating Accreditation Program to ensure the development of capable confident referees began in 2021 and has resulted in the following:

  • Appointment of a National Officiating team (August 2022)
    • Head of Officiating - David Jay
    • Officiating Secretariate - Margot Tredinnick
  • Development and implementation of the Accreditation Plan
  • Referee training sessions hosted prior to most sanctioned tournaments.
  • Referee mentoring at tournaments
  • Accreditation of over 50 referees across Australia at Level 1 - 4.

PAA Officiating Accreditation Program

The PAA Officials Accreditation program provides 4 levels of training for interested individuals.

NOTE: To be accredited as a PAA referee PAA membership is required.  We are presently reviewing membership for referees and benefits this will include.

LEVEL 1: Attention is placed on supporting these beginner referees both on and off the court to ensure they develop the skills for officiate games calmly and confidently.

LEVEL 2: Focus is placed on managing players and complex situations on court.

LEVEL 3: Recognised as high level referees generally considered "at the peak of their game".

LEVEL 4: Recognised as setting the standard for referees and also certified as officiating assessors.

Please see events page for details on upcoming PAA officiating accreditation courses.
