Following the new Water Polo rules introduced by World Aquatics, Water Polo WA adopted and implemented an education framework in February 2025. Here's a review in case you missed it!

With the new season soon upon us, you can brush up on the new rules.

All Rules outlined in the document below will now apply in all WPWA competitions with the following exceptions:

1.      Teams & Players – the number of players is as set out in the rules relevant to the WPWA Competition. The new regulations otherwise apply for example, following the start of the match, a team is not obliged to have a goalkeeper in the field of play and may play with seven field players

2.      Time out only applicable in WPWA Grand Final games or as specified in the relevant competition rules.

3.      Ball possession time remains as set out in Competition Rule 20.1 - 30 seconds and 20 seconds

4.       VAR Protocol not applicable

5.      Penalty Shoot Out (PSO) Protocol only applicable in WPWA competition involving a PSO – Semi finals and Grand finals.

6.      New Challenge Protocol not applicable
