Call out for committee & office bearers
Published Wed 22 Oct 2025
Sailors,
Ours is an unbelievably rewarding sport. You already know this, which is why you’re here on our website.
Not only is racing, teaching and learning incredibly fun; Not only are there opportunities for young sailors to get onto a pathway to state, national and Olympic events; Not only do you get to spend time on the water (rain, hail or glorious sunshine!) with friends… But you’re also sailing. Which is sheer joy.
Like most sports, however, at the grass-roots level, sailing thrives off the hard work of volunteers. An army of them. From clubs and race committees, to that friendly couple down the beach who always help you lift your boat out of the rack. We would be unable to sail and race without each of these contributions.
The Pacer Association is no different.
I’m incredibly grateful to the Pacer Australia and Pacer Victoria committees for the work they have put in over the past 2 years during my role as President. Our Victorian and Australian national titles could not have run without a raft of activity that happens in the background. As I reach the end of my term in this role, I’m reaching out to you, our members, to seek the interest of those who can contribute some time and effort towards our association by joining the committee.
Consider this:
- Pacers are ubiquitous. You will be hard pressed to find a club that doesn’t have Pacers.
- Pacers are an excellent all-rounder. From training newbies, to green fleet, to full-on, elbows-out, spinnaker-powered competition, these boats are robust, evenly-matched, yet with class rules that leave enough flexibility for variation, ingenuity and home-grown engineering.
- Pacers have an exciting future. But we need the right push. And that takes effort. That could be you.
As a volunteer committee member, you will contribute to:
- Our direction as a class
- Scouting and deciding the location of Pacer events
- Training (e.g. Spinnaker workshops, converting training boats to racing boats)
…and many more aspects of the class.
If you would like to join and make an impact, we would be genuinely pleased to hear from you. Please email us at paceraustralia@pacersailing.org.au to express your interest in joining the Pacer Australia and / or Pacer Victoria Committees.
Committee and Office-bearer appointments are open at the respective AGMs for Pacer Australia (January, Albert Park Yacht Club) and Pacer Victoria (March, Daveys Bay Yacht Club).
We warmly look forward to hearing from you.
Evan Chapman
Class President
