Why We’re Doing This

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

We are so grateful to those who purchased tickets to our planned Kangaroo fundraiser movie night. Unfortunately, ticket sales did not reach the level we had hoped, and we have made the difficult decision to cancel the screening. Every event we hold in Kristy’s memory should be a success worthy of her legacy, and we felt it would not be right to proceed with such limited attendance.

Instead, we invite you to join us at the final round of Social 7’s on Friday 19 September from 6:00pm–7:30pm at Orange PCYC. This special round will bring our community together in purple and white to honour Kristy, raise awareness about family and domestic violence, and continue to support NAPCAN’s Love Bites program in our schools.

If you are unable to attend but would still like to make a difference, please consider making a donation. Every contribution goes directly towards funding Love Bites in our local schools — empowering young people with the skills to build safe, respectful relationships, and ensuring Kristy’s legacy continues to create change for years to come.

In June 2023, our community was shaken by the loss of Kristy Armstrong to domestic violence. In response, the Home Base event brought together more than 150 players, over 100 volunteers, and hundreds of spectators – raising over $50,000. That money is now funding training for local facilitators to deliver the Love Bites and Love Bites Junior programs to young people in schools.

By teaching respectful relationships early, we’re helping stop violence before it becomes a pattern. This is prevention in action – and it’s part of Kristy’s legacy.

This movie night is also the main part of our Fundraising Round for Social 7’s Softball – our fun, mixed-gender, fast-paced format that brings people together both on and off the diamond. We believe sport can spark conversations and inspire action against domestic and family violence.

This event is more than a movie night – it’s a chance to be part of lasting change. Your ticket helps fund local facilitators to deliver Love Bites and Love Bites Junior in our schools. By starting conversations about respect and healthy relationships early, we’re helping prevent domestic and family violence before behaviours become entrenched.
