General Rowing Information

Rowing is a great sport that delivers excellent all-round fitness - cardio, flexibility and mental health. For those interested in competition the club competes successfully in the Masters regattas (Ages 27+) and have several rowers competing well into their 70s.

As a member of the Noosa Yacht and Rowing club there comes many benefits as follows:

  • Great comradery among members
  • Successful commercial component to the club which helps subsidise rowing about $500 per member
  • Range of club-owned boats to row from Singles to Quads. Sweep (one oar) and Scull (two oars)
  • 356 days a year access to the shed
  • Ongoing subsidised world-class coaching with an Australian National and Olympian rower
  • Regular off-water social events

Rowing is a team sport even if in a single scull. That means making commitments to others to turn up if arranged. Improvement and enjoyment only comes from regular time on the water. We suggest 2-3 times a week though many do more and some members only row once a week. Be prepared to continually make improvements. Coaching never stops as like all sports we all fall into bad habits. Correct technique is important to ensure no injuries and to have a positive contribution in crewed boats.

  • Early starts in Summer 5:15am and Winter a little later at 5:45am
  • Boats are heavy so ability to lift and help others as required to move equipment around
  • Commit to turning up if in a crew boat
  • Helping out be it working bees or generally other members
  • Expectation to help with rowers coming behind you
  • Follow the code of conduct
  • Appropriate clothing to be wworn on the water (fluro or white- no dark colours) Socks, caps, sunglasses.
  • Lights on boats for winter rowing

Learn to Row:

The rowing clubs' membership has grown significantly over the last 3 years and we have about a 10% dropout rate for various reasons.
