About

New Wave Water Polo Club was founded by Raul Ricci in July 2022 in South Perth. Thereafter, a New Wave committee was established by a passionate group of parents and individuals who all had children training at Water Polo Talent Academy (WPTA). In parallel, the Club was set up to give girls and boys the opportunity to play Water Polo in a supportive and inclusive club environment while enabling children in the local South Perth area to be able to compete together in the Junior League.

The Club entered 3 teams plus 2 composite teams in the Junior State League competition during the 2022/23 season and reached 2 'B' Grand Finals (12 & U, 14 & U) in the Australian Youth Championships in Perth during January 2023 which was amazing. Not bad given the first season playing competitive water polo for many. In addition, New Wave delivered a learn and play Flippa Ball program on Sunday mornings during the first season and trialled Friday night Flippa Ball game sessions which our boys and girls loved. A very successful first year!

In our second season, the Club doubled our registrations and entered 10 New Wave teams; 7 Junior teams including our first 2 New Wave girls' team across 2 age groups which was fantastic. We were also thrilled to have 1 ladies' team in D grade and 2 Senior mens' teams playing in E and F grade. So much effort from so many to get the Club up and running but we were delighted to have had another super season in Perth and with an U14 and U16 team playing in the Youth Championships in Brisbane in January 2024, there had been lots to celebrate for New Wave.

Our third season was a great success, being awarded WA Club of the Year at the end of the season. With 8 Junior & 3 senior state league teams this season, there has been a lot of amazing water polo played and teams reaching finals. 72 juniors took part in the Australian Youth Championships in Perth in April across 6 New Wave plus 3 combined teams with various WA Clubs. The boys came home wuith 2 bronze green division medals across 18&U and 16&U. Our Junior State representation continues across 15&U boys in 2023, 2024 to Gold Coast and now with both girls and boys going to Canberra in 2025. Well done!

Post our recent AGM in August 2025, the Club now has a strong committee of volunteers going forward to enable us to spread the wave and move to the next level.

For primary age girls and boys with confidence swimmimg and interested in trying out water polo or starting their water polo journey this coming season, the New Wave FLIPPA BALL ACADEMY will involve swimming, basic skill development and then fun games for all to enjoy.

The Club will have JUNIOR Teams across U12/U14/U16/U18 with training sessions throughout the season (Term 4 and Term 1) plus open sessions for SENIORS & MASTERS Ladies and Men to play social water polo. Beginners and those with experience and all very welcome across our teams.
