Start Crewing Saltwater Veterans

We are pleased to welcome participants to our Adult Learn to Sail Program (Start Crewing) for May 2024.  This course will include three sessions, conducted over the dates as listed above.

All session times are 9:00am to 1:30pm

Training will be conducted on the Club's fleet of Force 24 keelboats, which carry an Instructor and up to four course participants.  The boats will be sailed inshore on the water of Newcastle Harbour.

The NCYC Sailing Academy abides by the Australian Sailing instructor:student ratios, hence places are strictly limited.  To avoid disapointment, we recommend registering early.  

The NCYC subsidised/sponsored registration fee for this course is $170.

Course Attendance

This is a 3-week course and, in order to satisfy one of the requirements for issue of the certification, you must attend a minimum of 12 hours. If you miss a session, we offer 'Keelboat Catch Up sessions" once a month.  An additional registration fee applies.  Please see our Academy FAQs for full details and to review Terms & Conditions.

Course Overview
This course introduces participants to the basics of sailing on keelboats, including boat handling, safety and sailing theory.

Water confident.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a keelboat. Learn the basics, whilst staying relatively dry! All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Crewing completion certificate.
