Tackers Intro

Tackers Intro is a 1-day session which gives kids and their parents a taste of the Tackers program.  A chance to 'try sailing' before committng to a full course!

Your Tackers Intro session is designed to provide a safe and enjoyable introduction to dinghy sailing.  Best suited to primary school aged kids (6-12 years).

We are pleased to welcome participants to our Tackers Intro Sessions for the Summer school holidays 2023/24. 

Session time is 9:00am to 14:30

Training will be conducted in the Club's fleet of OziOpti Tacker dinghies.

The children will sail 'two-up' - two kids in each boat.

There are places open for 16 participants.  The NCYC Sailing Academy abides by the Australian Sailing instructor/student ratios, hence places are strictly monitored.  To avoid disapointment, we recommend registering early.

The registration fee for this session is $80. 

If they love it . . . continue onto Tackers 1

If the kids have a great time they can continue on with a Tackers 1 course.  The courses are offered in the school holidays or as weekly sessions during Terms 1 and 4.  

Family Discounts

Families with three children enrolled in our Tackers programs together, either in the school holidays or term-based programs receive a 5% discount.  Families with four children receive a 10% discount.  Please visit our our Course Fees & Discounts page for full details and the use of discount codes.

Member Discounts

Current financial NCYC members are offered a discount on training courses for their children or grandchildren - 10% for General Members and 5% for Crew Members.

NEW VENUE for Tackers Program

All of our Tackers courses will now be run from the NCYC Sailing Centre across the river at Carrington (over the Cowper Street bridge).  Children should be dropped off and picked up from this venue.  There is ample parking in front of the Carrington Police Station and an easy walk up the lane to the Sailing Centre’s entrance gates. Course Overview
This is the ideal introduction to the Tackers program. 2.5-3 hours on-water activity to get children familiar with sailing in a fun, non-competitive environment with a pathway on to more sailing through Tackers. 

Course Prerequisites

• Water confident
• 7-12 years old (albeit where younger or older siblings or friends want to also participate, please contact your local Centre)

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to be introduced to the sport of sailing. It's an ideal course to determine whether you'd like to participate in a Tackers 1 course.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Tackers Intro completion certificate.
