History

The club was originally established in 2004 as Vicki's pride Dragonboat Association in honour of local woman, Vicki Nottage. Having captained a Dragons Abreast dragon boat team based in Adelaide during her cancer treatment, she realised dragon boat could benefit people who did not have access to social exercise. Vicki planned to raise funds for a dragon boat for Murray Bridge that anyone could paddle in. However, she lost her battle with cancer before she could realise her dream. Her family and friends fundraised tirelessly to make Vicki’s wish a reality, and Vicki’s Pride Dragonboat Association was established in 2004.

After a period of drought when the river was too low to launch the boat, the club went into recess for some years. Then, in 2015, a group of locals contacted Vicki’s family and asked if they could bring Vicki’s Pride out of retirement.

Our name change in October 2024 to Murray Bridge Dragon Boat Club reflects our openness to members from all backgrounds and aim to provide a supportive, inclusive and respectful environment.
