Records indicate that the Mount Barker Croquet Club (MBCC) was formed in 1901 by a small group of local residents.
Number One And Two lawns were planted in the 1915/16 era, with a replanting after the first did not germinate.
Prior to World War I, there were about fifteen members,four of whom were men.
These pioneers played until the outbreak of WWI, when they went into recess, and the area was left uncut. When the lawns were reopened in 1945, these pioneeers played a big part in reestablishing the croquet club.
