President Report - Edition 3

Published Mon 03 May 2021

Dear Maccabi Basketball friends, members, and families,

I would like to start by welcoming back our players, coaches, managers, and fans to Term 2 of our 2021 basketball season. With a busy term 1 season already in the books, we look forward to continuing to provide you with a training and gameday experience filled by player growth, development and of course, enjoyment.

One way in which we hope to achieve this is through the engagement of former NBA player, Australian Boomer and NBL coach, Shane Heal. As you will likely have heard, Shane has joined the club to assist in the development of our coaches and players, assisting members of the club with technical and personal skills relating to basketball. Whilst Shane has already attended Maccabi junior training sessions, this term we have set up a plan for him to appear at multiple weekend games, providing him with the opportunity to support coaches and players with their growth and progression. Not to mention meet and greet a number of parents.

On a side note, I would like to formally congratulate Shane and his daughter Shyla on her recent selection in the WNBA draft. Shyla was selected with pick #8 in the draft and will represent the Chicago Sky in next season’s WNBA. There is no doubt we have many aspiring girls across our junior age groups, who will be inspired by Shyla’s persistence and talent that has ensured her place in this year’s WNBA.

On that note, I would like to congratulate our U14 Sparks team who played their 1st game over the weekend. It’s great to see you all on the court and having fun in the Maccabi uniform.

This term, the basketball club is also excited to oversee the distribution of personalised, 2021 edition, club hoodies, available for purchase by all members of our Maccabi Basketball community. As pictured below, these hoodies can be customised with personal nicknames and labels, which have already begun lighting up our training venues across the East.

In case you’ve missed out and are in a position to help support the club, hoodies are still available to order via…http://revolutionise.com.au/mnswbasketball/product/18342. We appreciate your support. Personally, I am looking forward to catching a glimpse of these hoodies at basketball courts across Sydney over the winter months.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to recognise the efforts and achievements of the Maccabi senior club across the first term of 2021. Whilst results for our men’s teams across term 1 unfortunately fell short of their own high standards, we are very pleased with the culture and growth surrounding our senior sides. This term our senior player registrations have increased to above 50 members, with a record, 6 teams competing across City of Sydney and East Basketball League competitions. I would like to wish our senior teams all the best for their respective competitions this season and beyond.

All in all, I would like to thank all friends, families, players, and sponsors for their contribution to the basketball club over the course of term 1. We are certainly on the right foot in terms of the direction the club is heading, and I am excited to see what the future holds for all involved.

Best wishes,

Regards,

Brad Rosen

President of the Maccabi Basketball Club
