Mildura Dragon Boat Club Code of Conduct

Introduction
The Mildura Dragon Boat Club is committed to fostering a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment for all members, participants, coaches, officials, and supporters. This Code of Conduct is based on the principles and standards outlined in the Dragon Boat Victoria Code of Conduct, with a particular emphasis on respect and athlete behaviour.
1. Respect
· Respect for Others: All members must treat teammates, coaches, officials, competitors, and supporters with dignity and respect, regardless of age, gender, ability, cultural background, or any other attribute.
· Respectful Communication: Use appropriate language at all times. Abusive, offensive, or threatening language or behaviour will not be tolerated.
· Respect for Club and Event Facilities: Members must respect club equipment, facilities, and those of host venues, ensuring all property is used responsibly and left in good condition.
· Respect for the Sport: Uphold the integrity and spirit of dragon boating by playing fair, following the rules, and honouring the traditions of the sport.
2. Athlete Behaviour
· Fair Play: Always compete with honesty and integrity. Avoid cheating, unsportsmanlike conduct, and any actions that may bring the sport or club into disrepute.
· Positive Attitude: Maintain a positive attitude during training, competition, and club events. Support and encourage teammates and fellow competitors.
· Accept and respect the authority and decisions of the coaches and officials.
· Prioritise the interests of the sport and team above their individual interests.
· Not engage in inappropriate conduct including the use of offensive language or gestures.
· Responsibility: Take responsibility for your actions, both on and off the water. Be punctual, prepared, and committed to training and events.
· Safety: Prioritise safety at all times. Follow instructions from coaches and officials, adhere to safety protocols, and look out for the welfare of yourself and others.
· Alcohol and Drugs: Refrain from using illegal drugs or consuming alcohol before or during club activities. Respect club policies regarding substance use.
3. Club Community
· Inclusivity: Support an inclusive and welcoming environment for all, free from bullying, harassment, or discrimination.
· Teamwork: Value teamwork and cooperation. Work collaboratively with others to achieve common goals and resolve conflicts constructively.
· Role Modelling: Set a good example for others, especially junior members, and newcomers to the sport.
4. Breaches of the Code
Any breaches of this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action by the Club Committee, which could include warnings, suspension, or expulsion from the club. Members are encouraged to report any concerns to a committee member or club official.
5. Acknowledgement
All members, coaches, officials, and volunteers are required to read, understand, and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct as a condition of involvement with the Mildura Dragon Boat Club.
This Code of Conduct is adapted in accordance with the standards and expectations set out by Dragon Boat Victoria, with particular emphasis on respect and athlete behaviour.
