Training

The Club trains at the Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club, Breakwater Parade, Mandurah Marina. Training times are subject to change.  (Please contact us before your first visit).

Training times are:

  • Tuesday 5.45pm

  • Thursday  5.45pm

  • Sunday  8.45am

Can anyone come paddling?

For insurance and safety reasons, paddlers must be 10 years or older to join.  However younger children can come in the boat with a parent and wearing a PFD.  No upper age limit.

How fit do I have to be?

There is no fitness criteria.  Fitness builds quickly once training begins. 

What do I need to bring?

Wear a pair of shoes (eg. Crocs, thongs, reef shoes), shorts and t-shirt you don’t mind getting wet, gym gear or swim wear type fabric is better than cotton. Bring a towel and water bottle. Paddles are supplied.

How often do I have to train?

We have 3 training sessions a week  - It is not compulsory to attend all 3 but we encourage paddlers to come along whenever they can.

How long are the races?

200m and 500m, 1000m and 2000m, during the dragon boat racing season. During the winter season there are fun regattas of various distances, usually about 10K

When is the regatta season?

November to March. Dragon boat racing is a summer sport in Australia.

What is a regatta?

A regatta is a racing event for water craft. There are 4 Grand Prix regattas in a season plus the State Championships in March. All  Grand Prix regattas are held at Champion Lakes in Armadale.

Clubs also have run other events in various locations such as Bunbury and Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour.
