Frequently Asked Questions
I’ve never done Muay Thai before, will I be able to keep up?
Yes. Many of our members start with zero experience. Coaches and committee members are there to help you feel comfortable and guide you through the basics.
Do I need to be fit before joining?
No. You don’t need to “get fit first” to start. Training itself will improve your fitness, strength, and endurance over time.
When and where is training?
Training is held every Tuesday & Thursday at 6-7pm in the La Trobe Indoor sports centre squash court 2
What should I bring to training?
We recommend bringing:

Water bottle

Towel

Comfortable training clothes

Boxing gloves and shin guards (if you own a pair)
If you don’t have equipment yet, then thats completely fine, we have spare gear available for beginners.
Is sparring mandatory?
No. Sparring is optional and only introduced when you are ready. Safety, control, and respect are always prioritised during training.
Is Muay Thai safe?
Safety is a major priority in our club. Sessions are supervised, drills are controlled, and members are expected to train respectfully and responsibly.
Can women join?
Absolutely. Our club welcomes everyone and aims to provide a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all members.
Can non-La Trobe students join?
Yes, everyone is welcome
How much does membership cost?
To ensure La Trobe Muay Thai remains accessible to as many students as possible, we currently do not charge a membership fee. Instead, first training session is free for you to trial Muay Thai, and subsequent sessions are priced at $7.50 per session, which helps cover essential operating costs such as equipment and club development. This allows us to keep costs low while continuing to provide high-quality training and a great experience for all members.
How often can I train?
This depends on your schedule and goals. Some members train once a week, while others attend multiple sessions.
Can I compete?
At the current stage we are yet to hold engage in competetions however we plan to do so in the near future.
