Dragon Boat WA (DBWA) is the state governing body for dragon boat racing in Western Australia. It supports the growth and development of the sport and coordinates state level racing, known as Grand Prix regattas, for affiliated clubs across WA.
DBWA aims to provide fair, consistent and competitive racing by:
Applying the Australian Dragon Boat Federation (AusDBF) rules of racing.
Using standardised dragon boats for Grand Prix events.
Holding Grand Prix regattas at the purpose-built Champion Lakes Regatta Centre in Armadale.
Offering a range of race distances, including 200 m, 500 m, 1,000 m and 2,000 m.
Dragon boating brings communities together across Western Australia, with clubs and events spanning from the Kimberley in the north to the South West and Great Southern regions. Paddlers have opportunities to compete at local, state and national regattas, as well as international events.
WA clubs have built a proud history of competition, with Western Australian paddlers achieving success at events around Australia and overseas.
Western Australia has hosted major Australian Dragon Boat Championships at several points in the sport's history, including events at Champion Lakes. The 2015 Australian Championships brought thousands of paddlers to Champion Lakes, helping showcase WA's facilities and vibrant dragon boating community.
Champion Lakes continues to be an important venue for state and national competition, providing paddlers with a purpose-built course for racing.
