About

The Jamestown Table Tennis Association was first formed in July 1935 when two churches, the Methodist and Presbyterian , both put in teams to form the Association. Prior to this it appears table tennis was played between the various church social clubs. These were played at different locations each week. During 1935 to 1970 matches continued to be played in many small halls throughout the district, including Belalie East, Belalie North, Caltowie, Canowie Belt, Bundaleer, St James Church Hall, RS Hall, Methodist Hall, Church of England Hall, Presbyterian rooms. That was the beginning.

In the early 1970's the first chapter of the current hall as we know it today had its beginning, and over the next 35 years we have developed one of the best, if not the best table tennis complex anywhere in Australia.

In an endeavour to give you some history of our Association, we have produced a booklet. Val Brooks has spent countless hours reading and copying articles that appeared in the local newspaper of the day, plus reading the minute books. Some years the story is scratch, as not much was recorded, plus quite a few minute books from the early years have been mislaid.

I encourage you to read the history of the Association as captured on the History tab on this website. I also encourage you to have a look at the JTTA Honour Board tab on this website.

A bound hard copy of the history of Jamestown is available if you are lucky eneough to lay your hands on a limited issue of the bound folder.
