Giants Softball Club Inc.

About

Giants Softball Club was founded in 1985 by a small group of local women (a few of whom are still involved in the Club today) and rapidly gained a reputation for being a strong, family centred club with a history of playing some very good softball. Giants compete within the GDSA (Gawler and Districts Softball Association) based at Karbeethan Reserve in Evanston Gardens and NAMSA (Northern Area Men's Softball Association) based at Ridley Reserve in Elizabeth, fielding teams from t-ball for ages 3+ through mixed junior age groups to senior men's and women's softball.

We have a proud history of success within our Associations, our district and at state, national and even international level. Most recently throughout the 2022/23 season we had 66 playing members, 15 officials and 13 life members, with representation in the SAPSASA state carnival, Softball SA Junior and Senior State Championships, School Sport Australia Championships, and interstate Regional and National Championships. We also had some junior players represent Australia at the Easter Classic in New Zealand in April 2023 and one player selected in the Australian U18 Talent Development Squad.

As part of our ongoing commitment to the continued growth of our sport and our club we aim to register 100 playing members by 2024/25, increasing our membership with a specific focus at the t-ball level to ensure the ongoing elevation of players through the junior ranks, and in the men's competition to provide a more elite pathway to the young boys who come through our junior program and age out of the junior competition, as well as providing opportunity to our elite male players to play at consistently higher levels whilst continuing to see developmental success with our female players at the elite level and engaging with the existing female community the sport and club has historically fostered.

A $3.5 million development of Karbeethan Reserve projected to begin in July 2023 will inject a welcome boost to our playing facilities include lighting, whilst Ridley Reserve has also recently undergone a similar upgrade meaning that all of our teams are being provided the opportunity to play on high level diamonds and coupled with a housing boom in the northern area we are excited to be situated where we can provide a safe, friendly sporting environment to all prospective players and families throughout the region. Our season runs from October through to March/April each year, with Come & Try Days for the 2023/24 season scheduled for August 6th and 13th followed by our preseason throughout September. New players are welcome at any time and we encourage you to reach out with any questions you may have.
