Northern Star Hockey Club

Northern Star Hockey Club logo

The Northern Star Hockey Club, founded in 1927, is one of the longest established largest hockey clubs on the Far North Coast of New South Wales.  Based in Lismore, the Northern Star Hockey Club currently fields hockey teams in the Far North Coast Hockey Association‘s Men’s, Women’s, and Junior competitions.

From humble beginnings….

The Northern Star Hockey Club was established as a means of providing employees of the Northern Star Newspaper with an activity to participate in together outside of work. Northern Star staff member Mr Herb Everingham was instrumental in the Clubs foundation, and after gathering the requisite support from the Directors of the Northern Star Newspaper the Northern Star Hockey Club was founded underneath a camphor laurel tree outside the office of the Northern Star on 30 June 1927.

Among the Club’s founding members only one, Mr F Weigall, had ever played hockey previously and as the most qualified member was accordingly appointed the Club’s first captain and coach.

To now….

The club now boasts almost 200 playing members amongst its ranks, ranging from Minkey’s (under 5 years of age) right through to our senior men’s and women’s ranks.

In addition to the Club’s rich and successful record on the hockey field throughout its lengthy and celebrated history, the Club continually endeavours to promote and observe the traditional values upon which the Club was founded. This is achieved by ensuring the Club is at all times;

  • family friendly;
  • social; and
  • enjoyable for all of its members

In achieving these goals the Club relies heavily on the wider Northern Star community which includes past players, friends, family members, sponsors, and interested members of the community; who all play an integral role.
