Dry Lakes Racers of Australia has updated its ‘Code of Conduct’ based on a framework supported by Motorsport Australia.

In this document, the term ‘relevant person(s)’, is used to describe:
Club members (active or passive), active Participants in the sport, Crew, Volunteers and Contractors, Employees, Officials, and Media representatives and any other persons directed by or representing DLRA.

This Code of Conduct outlines the standard of behaviour and ethical conduct that is expected of all relevant persons. It provides role-specific principles that guide individual behaviour and provides decision making to the Management and Executive committee.
The Code of Conduct applies to all activities conducted by DLRA, including Speed Week or other events, social gatherings, meetings or sponsorship events, persons travelling to or from those events; and at all other times at which relevant persons are wearing DLRA apparel or uniforms, whether compulsorily or by choice.

1. Compliance to venue rules
Relevant persons must observe and perform the terms and conditions of any lease, license, entry ticket or other agreement in force for any venue used for any event and comply with any applicable rules or regulations affecting the use of the venue or any instructions including stewards of the meeting instructions, or requests made by or on behalf of the owner, lessee or licensee of the venue.

2. Compliance to health, safety and other issues
Relevant persons must comply with the DLRA Occupational Health and Safety Policy, all laws and legal procedures and all manuals and lawful directions issued by the DLRA from time to time, particularly concerning health and safety.

3. Respect of intellectual property
Without limiting their obligations, relevant persons must not do (or omit to do) or be involved in the doing (or omission) of any act or thing by which intellectual property rights owned by DLRA may be lost or detrimentally affected. In addition, relevant persons shall not release documents or other information acquired during their duties without the authorisation of the DLRA.

4. Appropriate behaviour and appearance
The DLRA requires every relevant person to comply with the following Code of conduct with respect to behaviour and appearance:
Competitors and Crew:
• Competitors and Crew must recognise that Land speed racing is, by its nature, hazardous, and all competitors and crew must adhere to the safety rules as prescribed in the Rule Book; further, care and common sense must always be applied.
• Adhere to the rules and policies of the Club, respecting the traditions of the sport and the spirit of competition.
• Respect the rights and dignity of every person involved in the sport, including teammates, opponents and officials, and never engage in behaviour that abuses, provokes or harasses others.
• Respect the decision of officials and never argue with them.
• Always compete to the best of one’s abilities and participate for the enjoyment of a personal best performance.
• Never engage in inappropriate conduct including the use of offensive language or gestures that are demeaning to others, including volunteers, spectators, sponsors or any other person.
• Care for the equipment and facilities made available during competition and offer time to volunteer to keep equipment in neat conditions.
• Always consider the safety and well-being of other participants before performance and results.
• Never engage in inappropriate conduct, including drinking or smoking/vaping whilst in the presence of junior participants, unruly behaviour, or inappropriate gestures or language.
• Act professionally and maintain a professional image of the sport.
• Represent DLRA in a positive manner, always.
• Never engage in behaviour that is detrimental to the sport, prejudicial, offensive and do not make degrading, slandering or inappropriate comments about the sport, the club or any person either ‘directly’, indirectly, or via the use of postings on any social media platform.

Official and volunteers:
The activities of DLRA and the organisation and execution of Speedweek is possible because of the efforts of Club members that volunteer their time for the benefit of all Club members.
Volunteers may be placed in a position of authority and they must:
• Respect the rights and dignity of every person regardless of gender, race, ability, ethnicity or sexual orientation.
• Promote a safe and inclusive environment, in which every person is protected and free from discrimination, harassment and abuse.
• Always ensure the safety and well-being of competitors and other officials above all else.
• Maintain respectful and appropriate relationships with every person.
• Be impartial, consistent and transparent in their conduct and decision-making. Accept responsibility for all actions.
• Avoid situations that may lead to or call into question conflicts of interest.
• At all times act as a role model for others, displaying high standards of good sporting behavior.
• Never engage in inappropriate conduct, including the use of offensive language or inappropriate behavior, whilst in an official capacity.
• Comply with all rules and regulations of the club, including dress codes while in an official position.
• Adhere to the laws of the sport and the principles of fair play, ensuring that the spirit of competition is respected by all competitors and officials.

Spectators, Sponsors, Media and contractors:
During Speedweek, spectators, sponsors or representative of media and contractors may attend the event. The following conduct is expected:
• Respect the rights and dignity of every person including competitors, officials, parents and spectators; and never engage in behaviour that abuses, demeans, provokes or harasses others.
• Understand that sport is designed to be fun and that participating for enjoyment and wellbeing should always come before performance and results.
• At all times act as a role model for others, displaying high standards of good sporting behaviour.
• Call out and refer to club authorities all acts of unethical behaviour, whether from competitors, officials, spectators, contractors or any other person.
• Participating in positive behaviour that reinforces and encourages a participant’s effort.

Committee Members:
DLRA’s sporting activities are supported by Club members that are appointed by the members to conduct the business of the Club through their role in management committees, sub-committees and the Executive committee. These are the expectations of committee members:
• Respect the rights and dignity of every person regardless of gender, race, ability, ethnicity or sexual orientation and ensure that the club promotes a safe and inclusive environment.
• Always protect the integrity of motorsport by ensuring that the behaviour and conduct of every person is consistent with the laws of the sport, the principles of fair play and the standards of safe and inclusive sport.
• Always protect the safety and well-being of members by ensuring that appropriate safeguarding measures and policies are in place, easily accessible and understood by every person, and reviewed regularly.
• Be impartial, consistent and transparent in their conduct and decision-making. Accept responsibility for actions.
• Make decisions in the best interests of Club members and the sport.
• Promote a safe and inclusive environment, in which every person feels welcome and is protected and free from discrimination, harassment and abuse.
• Ensure that all competitors crew members, volunteers, officials and spectators well-being and enjoyment is placed ahead of performance and outcomes.
• Create pathways that support competitors and officials to improve their skill development.
• Provide equal opportunities for all competitors and officials to participate, regardless of gender, ability or cultural background.
• At all times act as a role model for others, displaying high standards of good sporting behavior.
• Never engage in inappropriate conduct including the use of offensive language, drinking, smoking or vaping whilst in an official capacity.
• Ensure that all members are made aware of their rights and responsibilities under the appropriate legislation including: Member Protection Policy, Code of Conduct, Child Safe Policy, OH&S policies and Anti-discrimination Policy, and know the process by which to refer a complaint or breach.
• Call out inappropriate behaviour by any Club member and in accordance with the Club’s policies make appropriate decisions.

5. Social media conduct
DLRA recognises the value of social media for the promotion of DLRA, the teams, members and events such as Speedweek. Social medical policies are complex as they include protecting the Club’s reputation, ensuring safety (especially for minors), maintaining professionalism, and adherence to policies. For images, a clear consent must be given, avoiding contentious issues, using appropriate communication channels and disclaiming personal views that are different to the club stance.
DLRA will develop a separate policy that covers social media conduct in the future however in general terms the following are the recommendations adopted by DLRA for social media interactions:
All content and contributions made by members on DLRA managed and administered social platforms and 3rd party or related interest parties must:
• Always show courtesy and respect for others.
• Protect personal privacy and that of others.
• Does not share personal or sensitive information, including names, addresses, phone numbers or email addresses.
DLRA reserve the right to moderate, hide, or remove any content that does not comply with our policy. This includes comments that:
• Abuse, harass, bully, or threaten others.
• Contain obscene, offensive, hateful, or discriminatory language or imagery.
• Impersonate or falsely represent any other person or organisation.
• Make incorrect or misleading statements or advice about a person, organisation, or government body.
• Incite hatred or discrimination based on personal characteristics such as race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, disability, or age.
• Include material that infringes the intellectual property rights of others.
• Make excessive comments on a particular issue.
• Promote commercial interests, petitions, or other unsolicited requests.
• Contain spam or irrelevant/off-topic material.
• Share misinformation, including unsubstantiated claims about DLRA, Australian sport, or government policy.
• Identify matters subject to ongoing legal proceedings or breaches a court’s non-
publication order.

DLRA reserves the right to report any serious misconduct to relevant authorities and to apply disciplinary action towards members that do not adhere to the social media rules, including a ban on membership to the club.

6. Dress code and attire

DLRA promotes an inclusive environment and promotes Speedweek and other events as a family friendly environment and minors will be present at the event. DLRA has adopted a Dress Code suitable for the nature of the events with consideration of the weather conditions of the main event (Speed Week) and its location of Lake Gairdner, SA. The following dress code must be adhered to by all members (active or inactive).

Competitors/Entrants
• During competition, the Dress Code of the entrant is defined in the Rule Book.
• If not actively competing, the Dress Code for members/crew applies.

Club Members, Crew and Volunteers
• All members attending an DLRA organised event, whether attending as an active participant/entrant or as a crew member of a team or volunteer, must comply with the Dress Code of the Club.
• Bathers, swimwear or underpants are not accepted and must not to be worn at anytime, anywhere during an DLRA event.
• At all times, pants, trousers, leggings or other ‘leg-wear’ must, at a minimum, cover half of the upper legs and must be worn by all attendees of an DLRA event.
• Sun-smart clothing, including a hat/cap, are to be worn in consideration with the weather.

Officials
• All appointed officials or any person acting on behalf of DLRA in an official capacity are required to wear a DLRA top (Shirt or T-shirt) that clearly identifies the person as an ‘Official’. If no Shirt or T-shirt is available due to size requirements, the person will be issued with an ‘Accredited Official’ badge or lanyard which is to be worn over an appropriate shirt/T-shirt.
• At all times, pants, trousers, leggings or other ‘leg-wear’ must, at a minimum, cover half of the upper legs and must be worn by all officials at an DLRA event.
• Officials must not be topless at any time during the event, regardless of the weather.
• Sun-smart clothing, including a hat/cap, are to be worn weather appropriate.
• Closed shoes are to be worn when handling Club equipment or during set up and pack down.
• Bathers, swimwear or underpants are not accepted and must not to be worn at any time in a public facing environment by any official.
• All clothing must be appropriate for an event where minors are present.

Spectators
The Dress code and weather conditions are communicated to visitors of the event on social media and it is expected that spectators adopt an appropriate dress code consistent with the DLRA’s rules, as above.

7. Child Safety Compliance
All DLRA officials and any individual appointed by DLRA that are public facing or in a supervisory role must comply and be approved under the legislation of SA for Working with Children Checks (WWCC). A register with all WWCC approved persons must be available at the event at the
registration desk.

Organisational Responsibilities
It is the responsibility of the DLRA to ensure that the Code of Conduct is available and accessible to all members and adhered to.
• DLRA must have appropriately trained people to receive and handle complaints and display the names and contact details in a way that is readily accessible to anybody attending an event. At a minimum, one (1) Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) must be identified and appointed.
• DLRA management must:
     o Monitor their compliance with the Policy
     o Promptly deal with any breaches of or complaints made in an impartial, sensitive, fair, timely and confidential manner;
     o Apply the Policy consistently without fear or favour;
     o Recognise and enforce any penalty imposed under this code
     o Ensure that a member protection policy is available and offers guidance to individuals reporting misconduct, harassment, or child safety concerns.          Ensure that complaints are handled sensitively, fairly, and in accordance with DLRA policy.
     o Act as a liaison between complainants and the Executive Committee or external authorities when necessary.

Child Protection
The DLRA is committed to the safety and well-being of all children who participate in DLRA events or access DLRA’s services. The DLRA supports the rights of the Child and will act to ensure that a Child-safe environment is maintained. The DLRA acknowledges that relevant persons provide a valuable contribution to the positive experiences of Children involved in our sport and the DLRA encourages their active participation in providing a safe, fair and inclusive environment for all participants. 8. Review
This Code of Conduct may be amended from time to time. It binds all relevant persons.
Where this Code of Conduct refers to laws, legal procedures or documents or rules or directions of persons or bodies other than the DLRA, it is the relevant person's duty and obligation to apprise themselves of those laws, procedures, rules and directions as may be in force from time to time.
