About

Dragon boating is one of the fastest growing water sports in the world.

Up to 20 people paddle in unison, with a drummer at the front, and a sweep steers the boat at the back.

Races are normally over distances of 200m and 500m. A 500m race last about 3 minutes.

The races are fast, loud, and colourful and this makes dragon boat racing an exciting spectator sport.

We participate in regattas held in Melbourne, regional Victoria, around Australia, and sometimes overseas.

We have both female and male team members, and the age range of our members is from 13 to 79!

We aim to:

  • Dragon boat for fun, friendship, and fitness
  • Embrace life and improve our wellbeing
  • Support all those who have had breast cancer
  • Promote breast cancer awareness
  • Demonstrate people can lead a very active life despite breast cancer
  • Encourage participation over competition.

What is involved?

Members attend our training sessions held at 9am on Sunday all year and at 6pm on Tuesday during daylight saving.

Sessions are usually about 1 hour and are held at:
The Community Hub At The Dock, Bourke St. Docklands, Melbourne (next to the Docklands Library, see map below).

Free 2 hour parking is available on Sundays on Bourke St.

Regattas are held on various weekends from October to April each year.

The club participates in a number of categories and our aim is always to participate and have fun!

You are welcome to come and try 3 times before deciding if you would like to join in the fun with us!

For training, wear comfortable clothes and shoes which may get wet, bring your own water bottle and sun protection.

The boats, paddles, and life jackets are provided.

We have a club uniform which members purchase and wear on race days.
