Chinese New Year Regatta
Published Mon 18 Feb 2019
The 2 day Chinese New Year Regatta saw both Corporate, Community and Club crews race against each other in our home ground in Docklands.
The first day was for the Corporate and Community crews to race off against each other. For CYSM, we helped train two full boats from Australian Emergency Assistance Association Incorporated (AEAAI). They were brimming with intense excitement for the day and were ready to show everything they had learnt.
After numerous dragon boat races and a fantastic tug-of-war competition, AEAAI won both first and second place in the Community category. Well done AEAAI and we hope you enjoyed your day immensely and will come back for a paddle or two.
The second day was the race offs between Victorian clubs. There was a massive showing of over 400 paddlers on the day, a history making record at our home ground. It was a gruelling day of over 30 degree heat and races throughout the entire day, but overall it was a fun and competitive day. Due to Chinese New Year, we also had our very own CYSM Lion Dance team come down to display a fantastic Lion Dance performance to wish everyone luck for the new year.
Our results for the day were 3rd place for the Women's 10s and 3rd place for the Open 20s categories. Not much longer to go, only two more regattas left for the season!
