Cobar Little Athletics

About

Little Athletic’s is about having fun, making friends, and getting families involved in healthy activities. The emphasis is placed on participation and personal improvement.

Cobar Little Athletics began in 1976, when Bruce and Pat Mitchell, together with Neil and Sharron Lethean, held a public meeting to form a Little Athletics Club in Cobar.

Jackie Byrnes, who became the coach of Melinda Gainsford-Taylor, in her then role as Development Officer of NSW Little Athletics, was in attendance.

The first competition was held at the High School oval.

In subsequent years, the competition was transferred to Ward Oval.

During the club’s existence, several thousand Cobar children have registered with the club.

The continued success of Cobar Little Athletics is due entirely to support given by many contributing parents and guardians, volunteers, and the community. Our club is run by volunteers who very generously give up their own time to provide this amazing experience for the children of Cobar.

As the 48th year of operations begins, a tribute must be paid to these people, the participating children, and those who have represented Cobar at various zone, regional, and state championships.

The Cobar Little Athletics Committee sincerely thank the organisations who have generously donated to our club.
