Safety Waiver

Dragon boat team members will participate at their sole risk. No organiser, sponsor, other person, or organisation associated in any way with the sport, will be liable in any way or accept any responsibility for any injury, loss, damage, or expense suffered or incurred by any dragon boat team member during dragon boat training or racing or in any other way in connection with the participation of that person as a team member.

  • I am able to swim at least 50 meters unaided whilst in my paddling attire

  • If I am unwell with any infectious illness, I will not attend training or events

  • I will wear appropriate clothing for the conditions. Unacceptable clothing includes (but is not limited to) Long trousers, denim, fleece, track pants/jackets. or other clothing that are likely to become significantly heavier when wet or impair your ability to move or stay afloat.

  • I will not drink alcohol within 12 hours of using a Dragon Boat. This includes sweeps, callers and paddlers

  • I understand that the sweep is the boat skipper and is responsible for safety of the crew and not endanger water users in the vicinity of the dragon boat

  • I understand that I may be excluded from the dragon boat for any action or behaviour that is deemed by the sweep (or other safety officer) to be potentially hazardous to myself or others

  • I will follow all instructions given to me by the sweep, safety officials, or other officials organising training or an event 

  • I will wear an NZDBA approved life jacket/PFD at all times when in a Dragon Boat. I will ensure that this is always fastened and maintained according to manufacturer instructions and that I know how to operate any inflating device.

  • In the event of capsize or swamping of the boat, I will look out for my "buddy”. If I am in the seated near the sweep or caller, we will join them and form a trio. Crew members must remain quiet, stay with the boat until the rescue craft arrives, and follow the sweep's and rescue crew instructions.

  • During regatta, I will comply with the instructions issued by race officials

  • Video footage and photographs taken at events may be used for live streaming and promotional purposes

  • CRDBA may send me emails from time to time in relation to my membership, to share information and complete post event surveys.

  • I will adhere to any additional safety requirements that CRDBA or event organisers communicates at any given time.

 

Dragon Boating is an "Assumed Risk Water Contact Sport" that may carry attendant risks. Participants should;

  1. Be aware and accept these risks

  2. Be responsible for their own actions and involvement

  3. Fully understand that they have a duty of care towards other participants in the sport and where relevant other members of the public in the vicinity of the dragon boat both on land and in the water.
