SheSails - Sail Our Way

SheSails at Canberra Yacht Club is all about creating more opportunities for women and girls to get involved in sailing, build confidence on the water and find a pathway into regular sailing and racing.

Through our Sail Our Way program, we run a range of opportunities including Free Sailing Fridays, Women’s Learn to Sail courses and other SheSails events throughout the season.

Whether you are completely new to sailing or looking to get back on the water, our aim is to make sailing welcoming, accessible and enjoyable, while helping participants take the next step into club sailing.

SheSails Fridays

Join us for a relaxed Friday evening sail on Lake Burley Griffin. Each session runs from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

Women’s Learn to Sail

Our Women’s Learn to Sail courses are women-only programs designed to provide a welcoming and supportive introduction to sailing.

Across four sessions, participants will learn the fundamentals of sailing, including rigging, boat handling, steering, sail trim, safety and working as part of a crew. No previous sailing experience is required, and all sailing equipment and lifejackets are provided.

As part of our SheSails program, Canberra Yacht Club subsidises these courses from the standard $650 Learn to Sail fee to $500, helping make sailing more accessible and encouraging more women to get involved in the sport.
