50 Year Celebtation

Perfect day, big crowd, BRSC celebrates 50 yrs in style

A glorious Spring day was the perfect backdrop for the Big River Sailing Club to celebrate its 50-year anniversary. Current members were joined by past members, including those that had left the area but were none the less keen to revisit an old stomping ground. For many, it was the first time back at the club for many years and the first chance to see the clubhouse since the rebuild in 2019. For others it was an opportunity to show and introduce their kids to a spot that holds special memories. Stories of old were traded against those more recently, but the one story that remains relevant throughout, is that the BRSC has always, and will no doubt continue to be an important contributor to the sport and the area.

As always, Jan and her helpers in the canteen did what they do best. A lavish morning tea followed by a BBQ lunch ensured that everyone was well fed as much as they were made feel welcome. Between the offerings, Hariet and Rod orchestrated a 'sail past', whereby the current fleet (adorned for the occasion) made a short trip upriver before turning and running downwind in full view of the spectators. To complete what had been a special day to that point, many visitors then stayed on to watch the day's racing.

The 50 year celebrations also provided a unique opportunity for a group of former club commodores to gather en masse, including Greg Howell who had made the trip down from north of Brisbase.
