Learn to Skate with Brisbane City Rollers

Always wanted to try roller derby but not sure how to start? Join us at BCR for our 16-week Learn to Skate Program to fall in love with skating and start your roller derby journey!

Event information:

Our Learn to Skate Program is a 16-week program designed to introduce you to the FUNdamentals of roller skating, teaching you all the skating skills you will need before we introduce you to contact. Our new skater intake remains open for two weeks (4 sessions).

2026 intake dates for new skaters (and future derby players):
 
Session 1: Monday 20 July 6:30pm registration (for 7pm start on skates)
Session 2: Thursday 23 July 7:00pm registration (for 7:30pm start on skates)
Session 3: Monday 27 July 6:30pm registration (for 7pm start on skates)
Session 4: Thursday 30 July 7:00pm registration (for 7:30pm start on skates)
 

What to bring:

  • Comfortable clothing that is easy to move in – leggings or shorts, socks, t-shirt
  • Water bottle & towel
  • Quad skates
  • Helmet & protective gear (knee, wrist and elbow pads)

Equipment hire:

Derby gear is expensive, so we have equipment available free for your use during the 21-day trial period, and after that for $5 per week (you can organise this through your coach).
 

Program Cost:

  • $40 for your 21-day Learn to Skate trial (includes up to 6 sessions, gear hire, insurance coverage for trial period)
  • $110 training fee for remaining 13 weeks of the 16 week Learn to Skate program (payable after trial)
  • $25 introductory BCR membership fee (payable after trial) 
  • $100 Developmental roller derby insurance (payable after trial)

Brisbane City Rollers was founded in 2008 as Australia's first open gender roller derby club. Our values of inclusion, respect & positivity, have led to us being one of the largest clubs in Australia. We create opportunities for all our members from A grade competition to rookie games, referee mentoring & even off skates roles such as officials, commentators, coaching.

Brisbane City Rollers train and play on Yuggera country. We acknowledge the Yuggera & Turrbal people as the traditional custodians of this land.
