BCR Code Of Conduct
Being A Brisbane City Rollers League Member
Joining BCR is not just about the sport of roller derby, it’s about community, fair play,communication and working as a part of a team. It is a requirement of membership that you
agree to the values, principles and policies, and expectations of BCR. By applying and signing the BCR membership form, you agree to comply with all BCR rules and regulations.

BCR is an inclusive and diverse club, we proudly support our LGBTIQA+, our gender diverse, our culturally diverse, our diversely ablied community, we believe in creating
opportunities for all our members, we are ANTI racist, ANTI homophobic, ANTI transphobic. We believe that HATE has no space in sport.


Note: The definition of an event encompasses any activity sanctioned by BCR or another
roller derby league, such as training, scrimmage, bouts, fundraising events, etc.

Treat all Members with Respect, Dignity and Fairness
It is the responsibility of all members of BCR to treat one another with respect, dignity and fairness. This includes any behaviour or language, which may sexualise or make insinuations about our members & our community. All members are to ensure their actions are free of harassment or abuse (this includes in person at training, events and social media).


Display Good Judgement
All members must conduct themselves with honesty, fairness and integrity. All members
need to be conscious of BCR’s image and must represent BCR in a positive light; this includes whilst in uniform at non-derby events and on social media.


Social Media
All members of BCR are to conduct themselves in line with the Code of Conduct on social media. BCR is an inclusive & diverse community for all persons, we have members of varied genders, races, sexualities, class & abilities, your social media posting should consider if it is hurtful to our members, our community or our brand.


Inclusion
Brisbane City Rollers is constantly aiming to improve our awareness of behaviours or derby names that may be offensive to others.
For this reason we ask our members to not use names that may be:
- culturally appropriating, a nation, ethnicity or religion that is not your own.
- may be of a sexual nature that may inadvertently support domestic or sexual violence or
harassment, or overly explicit due to minors being in attendence
- may be seen as derogatory or offensive to the LGBTIQA+ community if you are not a part
of associated community.
- may be seen as derogatory or offensive to those that are neurologically diverse or
differently abled if you are not a part of associated community
- words which have been historically or currently used as slurs against one of the
communities above will not be accepted


Act Safely
All members are to promote a safe environment at all events. This includes, but is not limited
to:
● Wearing all safety equipment relevant to your role;
● Meeting the minimum skating proficient expected for your role;
● Demonstrating the required level of understanding of the rules; and
● Being physically free of any substance that may present a risk to the safety of
people, property and equipment.
The BCR Executive Committee, a coach, a team captain / vice-captain, or the first aid officer are authorised to withdraw a skater from training if they feel that the skater poses a risk to themselves and others.


Play Fair
All members are to promote a culture of fair play. Members are expected to abide by the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of all agencies related to Roller Derby and Roller Derby Events.


Accept Responsibilities for All Actions Taken
All members are to be aware of rules, regulations, policies and procedures of all agencies related to Roller Derby and to accept responsibility for their actions. All members are to address concerns, questions and issues using the appropriate channels calmly, openly and rationally, and with a solution based focus.

Any member found violating this code of Conduct will have their membership reviewed by the BCR Executive Committee and action, such as a formal warning or expulsion without refund of dues paid, may be taken.

 

You agreeing to the following
  1. If any member is found to be harassing, abusing or discriminating any member of BCR or a member of another league via social media, the member will face disciplinary action, such as a formal warning or expulsion without refund of dues paid. Any member that witnesses any form of abuse or harassment, or sees anything that is not in line with BCRs Code Of Conduct, is encouraged to inform the Executive Committee as swiftly as possible so the matter can be dealt with in a timely manner.
  2. All members are to promote a safe environment at all events. This includes, but is not limited to: wearing all safety equipment relevant to your role, meeting the minimum skating proficiency expected for your role, demonstrating the required level of understanding of the rules, and being physically free of any substance that may present a risk to the safety of people, property and equipment. The BCR Executive Committee, a coach, a team captain / vice-captain, or the first aid officer are authorised to withdraw a skater from training if they feel that the skater poses a risk to themselves and others.
  3. All members are to be aware of rules, regulations, policies and procedures of all agencies related to Roller Derby and to accept responsibility for their actions. All members are to address concerns, questions and issues using the appropriate channels calmly, openly and rationally, and with a solution-based focus.
  4. All members are responsible for the timely payment of their fees and are to ensure they do not accrue arrears.
  5. All members are to treat BCR property with respect and care. All members are also to follow through with commitments made at BCR events (see definition above), otherwise they are to find a suitable replacement for themselves prior to the event.
  6. Any member found violating this code of Conduct will have their membership reviewed by the BCR Executive Committee and action, such as a formal warning or expulsion without refund of dues paid, may be taken.
