About

Boccia in QLD is run by Boccia Australia. Boccia is a strategic and competitive game. It tests control and accuracy as competitors throw, kick, or use a ramp to propel leather balls as close as possible to the white ball (the Jack). Whether you are in it purely for the enjoyment, or looking to challenge yourself in our National or Paralympic pathways, Boccia could be the sport for you!

  • Boccia is a precision ball sport played on a flat, smooth court measuring 12.5 × 6 m, with 2 m of clear space around it

  • Played individually, in pairs, or teams of three (mixed gender in Australia)

  • The aim is to throw red or blue balls closest to the white target ball (jack)

  • Players throw from designated boxes and must remain within them

  • Each side has six balls per timed end

  • The side furthest from the jack throws next until all balls are played

  • Points are awarded for balls closer to the jack than the opponent’s nearest ball

  • The highest total score wins, with a tiebreak end if needed

  • Games are four ends (individuals/pairs) or six ends (teams)
