Call for Volunteers for the Open!

Published Sun 16 Aug 2026

Wondering if you can help out during the open? The answer is yes! Here is a list of jobs that definately need filling, and even if these are taken care of, there will certainly be more jobs to be done. You can shoot and volunteer, we will make sure of that 😀

  • Patching - one or two on each 25m range. Patch out each shooters target (with little stickers to cover the holes) after it has been called and scored. Black patches on black, white patches on white, try to avoid patching over the lines. Don’t be too quick to patch in case a competitor challenges the scorer!
  • Scoring - one per 25m range. Write down the numbers that the caller calls out. X’s are x-ring 10s, and are to be recorded as “X”, 0 (often with a diagonal line through the zero) are for shots that hit the target but are outside the 1 ring, “-” is for shots that miss the target completely. The 5 shot totals are added up on each line, and further totals are added together (you will be shown how to do this)
  • Calling - one per 25m range. Best done by a range officer or someone familiar with the role, as there are some judgement calls to be made that need experience.
  • Range Officer - one per range. Qualified range officers only for the open. For those that are less confident, running the 50m (free pistol) and 10m (air) ranges are a lower stress option that would be very helpful.
  • Scoring Shed - data entry role that needs confident computer skills. You will be trained on what to do and won't be doing this solo.
  • Kitchen/Canteen - can you help toast a sandwich or flip a few eggs and bacon on the bbq? We're running the kitchen/canteen ourselves this year to help raise funds for the club and have big shoes to fill after the hard work of Rotary last year.

If you can help with any of these jobs please let the committee know. You don't have to committ hours to it - just let us know when you can help and for how long and we will slot you in. If you can help all day that's great! But if you can only spare a couple of hours that would be appreciated too.
