About

More about us;

We were established in 1991 by Miss Marie and Miss Natalie who continue to coach all our teams.  Both our coaches are nationally accredited with over 30 years experience with all teams from Tinies to Seniors, including 7 years of State Team coaching experience.

Our focus is on fun, fitness, team spirit, learning and encouraging our students to be the best they can be. So come on and give it a go!  Participants from 3 years old are welcome to come along and have a go, and your first lesson is free.

Our term fees are extremely competitive and very reasonable. We are a competitive club and participate in the State Championships run by CASA in May-June and August-September every year.

What is Calisthenics?

Calisthenics is a uniquely Australian sport combining elements of gymnastics, dance, marching, singing and the use of apparatus.     It helps develop discipline of  the mind and body, and fosters team work, a competitive spirit and a sense of commitment.

Calisthenics has a strong focus on deportment and presentation, and participants develop self-confidence and personal presentation and experience the thrill of performing on stage in front of an audience.  Thousands of children and adults are involved in calisthenics across Australia.

The word calisthenics comes from the Greek words ‘kallos’ for beauty,  and ‘thenos’ for strength. It is an artistic sport unique to Australia.  It involves a team of participants learning routines choreographed to music – from two to four minutes long – and presenting those routines at competitions in a theatre with costumes, props and stage lighting.

Pupils learn approximately 3-6 routines (depending on age) throughout each year, highlighting the diversity of this amazing and unique sport.  In addition to team work, participants can also learn and compete in solo and duo items.

Sport or Art?

Calisthenics is both.

As a sport it involves the acquistion of new skills, coordination, strength, fitness, self-discipline and team spirit.

As an Art it develops an appreciation of music , rhythm, knowledge of a variety of dance styles, self confidence, personal presentation and the experience of performing on stage in front of an audience.
