Mount Feathertop Alpine Hike - EOI
Event information
We're heading over to the Victoria Alps to do a snow hike at Mount Feathertop!
This is an advanced level hike, so to attend you need to have a reasonably high level of fitness. The first day is a very long, very steep hill, that is the equivalent of doing the height of Mt Lofty 2.5 times but at a twice as steep incline and while carrying a pack! You will also need to have been on a multiday walk with the AUMC before. If you're accepted onto the trip you'll be contacted via email by Friday June 19th.
Trip Plan:
On the first day, we'll do the drive over (11 hours).
The first day of the walk will involve a steep walk up the mountain with an 1100m elevation gain. This will take us through the lower temperate forest up to the alpine environment and we'll (hopefully) see some snow at the top. We'll then either stay in MUMC hut or camp on the snow outside.
On the second day of the walk, we'll head over to Federation Hut where we'll camp on the snow. We'll also try to go up Mount Feathertop summit if conditions are suitable.
On the third day of the walk we'll head back down through the forest to where we've left cars at the end of the walk.
Gear Required:
Please see below list. You will source some of your own snow gear but the club can provide alpine tents and snow shoes.
