Activities at Onkaparinga

Come along to the first camp of the year at Onkaparinga National Park! Spend the weekend getting to know your fellow AUMC members as you hike, climb, swim, and relax in the scenic Mount Lofty Ranges.

Native animals

You may run into kangaroos, possums, and echidnas. Birds include the peregrine falcon and the yellow-tailed black cockatoo.

Stargazing

A near full moon will light the sky in the evening. One of our members is bringing a telescope, allowing you to see it up close.

Rock Climbing

Onkaparinga is one of South Australia's premier climbing venues. Enjoy climbing on the 20 metre Top Cliff with dramatic views of the gorge below. Easy climbing is available as well as climbing that tests your limits and all gear can be supplied.

Swimming

Deep waterholes are in the gorge near a lot of the climbing and walking we are doing. Don't forget to pack swimwear and a towel!

Bushwalking

There are many bushwalks in Onkaparinga National Park that take you into the gorge and around the top of the cliffs surrounding it.

Camping

Our overnight campsite is equipped with toilets and sinks for washing dishes.

As a member of the Mountain Club, you can hire gear for free on this trip. So don’t worry if you don’t have a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, or stove.

Getting there

We are carpooling to Onkaparinga from the University. Meet at the lawn in front of the Unibar at 9am on Saturday so we can organise club gear and carpooling.
