HAPPY NEW MEMBERSHIP YEAR! And just like that - season 2024-5 rolled into 2025-6. As referred to last month, the REVS rollover will happen shortly, with all members requiring to re-register, and correctly select the RWA class they wish to register - this cannot be actioned until 6 October to allow for RWA to process the rollover. Please consider your category selection carefully - if in doubt choose a lower category as you can upgrade membership, however RWA cannot provide refunds or pro-rata these fees. Affiliation fees for this season MUST be paid by credit/ debit card as RWA will not take any manual payments. These fees have been increased in line with the CPI and now include the credit card admin fee for transparency:
Invoices for Club fees will be issued following receipt of registration fees. We have tried to minimise any increases, with many increasing by just the CPI. However, Junior fees have increased more based on the higher intensity of paid coaching for this group. These fees remain competitive with other rowing or sports clubs. The new fees will be:
All access codes will shortly be reset, with the new code being provided on payment of fees. Please do not share this code with other members as it indicates they are not yet financial and should not have use of Club facilities. |

SEASON 2025-26 REGISTRATION PROCESS
1 October marks the start of the new rowing season. This means that you will need to re-register on REVS (REGISTRATION), with membership invoices to be sent separately.

UPDATES FROM THE COMMITTEE There was no committee meeting in September due several members being in Spain for the World Rowing Masters Regatta. Stay tuned for more updates next month! ROWING WA COACHING GRANTS This year Rowing WA provided a grant for coaches to obtain their Level 1 coaching qualification which provides entry level training for safety, technique and age-based considerations. For these coaches this certification was a formality, with their skills and knowledge already amazing. The following coaches have obtained this qualification:

FAREWELL TO GRAHAM Sadly, our Juniors Supercoach Graham has decided the time is right for him to retire from coaching to spend more time with his family. With over 50 years of rowing, including 30+ years of coaching, he has certainly done his bit for the sport, and the Club wishes him, Nat and the rest of their family all the best. Graham moved from Tasmania to Perth in 2022 (to spend time with his family!!!) and was promptly recruited by Michelle and Glyn to boost ANA's Junior program, which had been struggling for some time. He initially spent some time coaching a group of senior rowers, including Liam, to attend the 2023 Australian Rowing Championships (ARC) held in Perth. Once the Junior season commenced he devoted his heart and soul to them, resulting in Tom and Banjo taking part in 2024 ARC in Sydney, and Banjo attending 2025 ARC in Tasmania where he was part of a WA/Tasmania quad scull that won the bronze medal. Graham has been integral in growing our Juniors squad from approximately 0 members to over 21, and coached them to several wins and placings in All Schools and RWA Pennant events. On the way he has guided them in their personal development through their teenage years, enabling them to grow friendships and the important sense of teamwork that is integral to rowing. ANA is sad to see him leave, but we hope you will always continue your association with ANA. Mark and Liam will be filling Graham's role in the interim while a permanent Juniors coach is located. |

ANNUAL DINNER 2025 ANA's Annual Dinner will be held on 8 November 2025 at the Maylands Golf Club, Peninsula Road Maylands from 6pm to 11pm. The dinner is open to ALL members and it is a great opportunity to meet people from different squads. The event will be held in a Great Gatsby theme - 1920's style outfits. It is absolutely not required to dress up but it's always fun to see! The function room is capped at 150 guests, please register early to avoid disappointment. PROGRESS UPDATE - CAMCO CORPORATE REGATTA CREW Our crew for the Corporate Regatta has been training hard under the watchful eye of Glyn and Glen in preparation for their race on 11 October. The crew are currently training on Wednesday morning, Friday evening and Sunday morning, and have just progressed from fours into eights in preparation. A combination of patience and persistence has seen them improve in leaps and bounds. Introducing our SuperStars:

SPOTLIGHT ON - 'OFF SEASON' ANTICS ANA will be holding a series of social events from October until March 2025, and there will be something to suit everyone. Please register for each event to allow for crews and catering. Halloween Row - Friday 31 October from 5pm. No tricks, just a treat! REGISTER HERE to be part of the Halloween Row to Sandy Beach and back with spooky post row snacks. Crews will be allocated on the night. Please bring a plate to share. Costumes are encouraged but if you feel that you are spooky enough - own it! LTR UPDATE Dave and Finni continue to lead ANA's hugely successful Learn To Row program, with plenty of help from Club volunteers. Over a four-week period, participants learn the basics of single sculls as they gain confidence to progress further and further from the shore. Once finished Tony B offers two Post Learn to Row sessions where graduates jump in to coxed quads and learn to row as a crew. The next course is being held in November, with all spots currently SOLD OUT! If you are available to help please contact Dave |

WORLD ROWING MASTERS REGATTA WRMR 2025 was held from 10 to 14 September in beautiful Banyoles, Spain. Highlights of this regatta included Adam's composite crew took out the win in the mixed E8 - well done! WRMR 2026 will be held between 9 and 13 September at Lake Bled, Slovenia which potentially tops Banyoles in the beauty stakes. Lake Bled has been used for several prestigious rowing events and interested rowers should start saving now, factoring in the additional costs of race entries, boat hire and oar hire which do add significant costs to the event. RACING NEWS The 2024-5 racing season concluded with the RWA State Championships, scheduled to take place over the weekend of 13-14 September. However, in what has been the theme of this racing season, the weather forecast predicted squalls of 40km/h on the 14th. This led RWA to make the difficult, yet sensible decision to condense the Regatta into a single-day event, with placings determined by the fastest time, rather than the heats and finals typically used in State Champs. The rescheduled events did not deter the bad weather, with high winds causing delays and the cancellation of some small boat events. These changes meant that several of our rowers competed in 6 events, with the regatta running from 8am until 5pm, an epic day! No wins this year, the following members took out the 'minor' placings:
It has been great watching the success of our new racing members this year and we hope to see everyone (and more!) back again for 2025-26. Special mention to our coaches Louisa and Rene for getting up early, braving the weather, cheerfully making us work in training and patiently correcting techniques. THANK YOU!! ANA would like to send a huge THANK YOU to Dan, Stacey, Connal and our very own Rene Brovelli for their tireless work. The impact of regatta cancellations and rescheduling has made for several long days but has enabled competitors to maximise their opportunities. Additional thanks to all BRO's for ensuring the safety and compliance with rules. Great to see Mark and Russ take on the challenges of this role! |

JUNIOR RACING Bad weather continued after Pennant 3, with the All Schools State Championships being rescheduled from 9 August to 23 August after severe storms were forecast. The change in dates did not impact the performance of our junior athletes, with three crews taking out third places:
This event winds up the junior racing season, however some of them will continue in the Pennant season and hopefully the Head of the Swan before enjoying some downtime. |

BLAST FROM THE (RECENT) PAST - CATHERINE VAN DELFT Catherine began rowing at ANA after completing a Learn to Row course. She continued to row in recreational crews and commenced coordinating and instructing Learn to Row courses for several years. Catherine has been instrumental in organising and instructing dozens of learner rowers, leading to an increase in Club membership. Her patience and teaching skills was recognised in 2021 with the naming of the Catherine Van Delft lightweight eight. |
