SAFETY MATTERS - HEEL TIES SAVE LIVES This months focus is on HEEL TIES - Properly adjusted heel ties are essential for safe rowing regardless of your level of experience, the weather conditions or the class of boat you are in.
On the subject of safety - all members are reminded not to stop and/or turn boats at the powerlines between Olive Farm and the Guildford Road bridge due the lack of visibility and the narrowing of the river. Continue upstream approximately 100m and turn on the eastern side of the river, or turn at the red spit post. |

MAINTENANCE TEAM Thank you to our dedicated Maintenance Team, ably led by Glen, Garth, Phil and Matt with regular assistance from Nigel, Frances, Tony, Will, Lawrence, Frances and Nadja. Every Sunday the Team attends to boat and shed maintenance to ensure members have suitable equipment to use. Recently the Team has completed a major refurb of the Hashemy which is one of the most popular lightweight racing singles, and was looking worse for wear. Matt and Nadja have given the boat a complete facelift and it now looks brand new. Also being reworked is the Pyranees which is getting a structural overhaul. The Team's work on boat repairs saves Club members thousands of dollars each year, but there is only so much the Team can do. If you would like to help them out, please contact Matt- no experience is necessary, just a positive attitude and a desire to learn. This work contributes to your volunteer hours. Another timely reminder to ensure the shed is left in a neat condition, common areas that need attention are:

METTAMS HEAD RACE - 17 May Mettams is the first of the RWA Head Race series, which sees singles and double sculls compete over a 3km course, and coxed quads and eights race over 4.5km, all finishing at Canning Bridge. ANA had great results, with wins to the Masters Men's, Women's and Mixed eights, and Alec and Maz in the Masters Men's and Women's respective singles. Thanks to coxes Lucas, Luca and Kay. Honorable mention to the Dev Squad Sweep graduates who finished a very respectful 5th in the open women's race. |

AMRC 2025 - SYDNEY INTERNATIONAL ROWING CENTRE AMRC 2025 saw 965 rowers compete across 203 events from 29 May and 1 June. Eight ANA members made the trip to Sydney, with all members bringing home a medal:
Sandy and Rene also competed in the Interstate Women's 8, finishing 4th - well done ladies. Next year's AMRC will be held in Perth between 27 to 30 May. Stay tuned for further updates as this event gets closer. |

GUILDFORD TO GARRATT HEAD RACE - 31 May 'G2G' typically showcases ANA's beautiful water, with this years event being no exception. Due to conflicting schedules with AMRC and the G2G there was a lower than normal turnout for the Master's events - well done to the ANA Masters Womens coxed quad who held off a quality crew from UWA and the Masters Women's eight who destroyed the other crews (OK they were the only crew in the category - a win is a win??) but still had a great row. Our Mixed Masters eight had the fastest time in their category but came second on age-based handicap times, still a great race for them in their debut G2G. The Mens Masters Quad and Schoolboys Quad both came second, with the Open Men coming in sixth. Despite being an RWA event there is a considerable requirement for ANA to provide volunteers to marshall traffic, assist in starting and driving race umpires. Thanks to you all for this vital assistance. |

JUNIOR ROWERS Our Juniors Racing squad will have their first regatta on 15 June at Champion Lakes. Graham, Alysia and Liam have working with them to build their fitness and technique with morning sessions, single sculls and ergo training, and they are starting to look really good. It is exciting to see them progress in their rowing and we wish them all the best for racing. Spectators are always welcome at these events, particularly with the juniors as they commence what can be a daunting experience. All you need to bring is your cheering voice - GO ANA!! Junior Dev Squad numbers and skills continue to improve, at this time of the year we typically get an increase in numbers from the boys rowing schools as they enter their off-season. LEARN TO ROW This month we welcome Dave back on the water after 5 months recovering from non-rowing related injuries. Its been a long dry spell for Dave, we are glad to see him back on the water. In this downtime Dave has been continuing to lead our Learn To Row programs with assistance from other volunteers - Catherine, Aidan and Emma have been helping him with the current courses but new volunteers are always needed. The Learn To Row courses represent a significant part of our income and membership base, and all members are encouraged to donate a couple of hours to help teach new rowers.
