Oceania Selection Event 2022

The 2022 Oceania Selection Event will take place on Sunday 20 of Feb - same day weigh-in between 8:30 am and 9.00 am with compeittion starting at 1pm. 

All participants must be a member of Wrestling Australia.

Proof of Australian citizenship is required. Please email a copy to admin@wrestling.com.au after you complete your registeration. 

This competition is exclusively for male and female senior competitors wishing to be considered for selection for the Oceania Championships to be held in Guam in April 2022 as part of the nomination for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

U17 (Cadet), U20 (Junior) & Senior Greco

There will be no selection event for Under 17 (Cadet), Under 20 (Junior) male and female categories or Senior Greco Roman competitors.

Selection will be made by the National High-Performance Committee based on an applicant’s past results at an international, national and state level. It is the responsibility of the athlete to provide accurate results.
Wrestling Australia have a duty of care to ensure that all wrestlers attending the 2022 Oceania Championships are of an appropriate standard and are not at danger of being injured at the event. Expression of interest will need to be endorsed by an applicant’s coach and provide evidence of previous wrestling experience.

• Expression of Interest form to be completed (link here) and returned to Wrestling Australia PLUS the “option” to compete at selection events in  Sydney & Perth for observation and assessment by HP Committee members and National Coaches.

Two Athletes can be selected for each weight category to represent Australia at The Oceania Championships Guam where all travel & accommodation and fees are to be Self Funded if an athlete is nominated and attends.

Wrestling Australia are under no obligation to send the maximum number of permitted athletes in each age/weight class.

Participants

• Oceania Championships Selection Event 2022 competition is a CLOSED event.  All participants need to be an Australian Citizen.  Proof of Citizenship must be provided to admin@wrestling.com.au by the close of registrations.  

• Any individual that is a financial member of their state wrestling body and Wrestling Australia Ltd. (WAL) and meets the entry requirements can enter. 

• The competition will be conducted in accordance with United World Wrestling rules (https://unitedworldwrestling.org/)
• Weigh in will open at 8.30am and close at 9.00am. Wrestling will commence at 1pm.

Weight - Age Categories (NB: NO WEIGHT TOLERANCE)

Weight Categories for competition:

Commonwealth Games Weight Classes:

Senior Male (20yrs+): 57, 65, 74, 86, 97 and 125kgs 

Senior Female (20yrs+): 50, 53, 57, 62, 68, and 76kgs

Non Commonwealth Games Weight Classes:

Senior Males (20yrs+): 61, 70, 79 and 92kgs 

Senior Female (20yrs+): 55, 59, 65 and 72kgs 

Weight Categories for nomination by application only are:

• Under 17 Males: 16-17 years of age (15 with medical and parental certificate) • 41-45/48/51/55/60/65/71/80/92/110kgs
• Under 17 Female: 16-17 years of age (15 with medical and parental certificate) • 36-40/43/46/49/53/57/61/65/69/73kgs
• Under 20 Males Freestyle: 18-20 years (17 with medical and parental certificate) • 57/61/65/70/74/79/86/92/97/125kgs
• Under 20 Females: 18-20 years (17 with medical and parental certificate) • 50/53/55/57/59/62/65/68/72/76kgs 
• Senior Male Greco-Roman: • 55/60/63/67/72/77/82/87/97/130kgs
• Weight classes - wrestlers must weigh in exactly on or under their nominated category weight.
