WPA x Project Confidence

WPA x Project Confidence is a Water Polo Australia initiative which supports the empowerment of young members to feel safe and confident in their bodies, normalise conversations on the specific challenges faced in the sport and create an environment that empowers more young people to keep playing water polo throughout and beyond puberty.

We believe it is imperative to enable equity both within the sport and its potential leaders long-term, to enable equity opportunity within the sport which starts from a place of safety and confidence.

This project offers an online safe environment with the sole focus on providing resources and education materials for young teens to best continue their engagement with the sport while accommodating specific issues that they may be facing. Our key messages:

  • BE STRONG - empowering strong minds and bodies
  • BE POSITIVE - inspiring a positive self-image
  • BE CONFIDENT - celebrating self confidence

Welcome to WPA x Project Confidence

We surveyed the WPA community, partners, players, parents, coaches and volunteers to understand what the most important topics were that members wanted to hear about, and contacted several subject matter experts to share their informative and engaging stories.

Australian Youth Water Polo Championships x Project Confidence

In April 2025, Water Polo Australia delivered the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships (AYWPC) - which has grown to become the largest participation water polo competition in the southern hemisphere. The AYWPC plays host to more than 3000 athletes from across the country, in 12&U through to 18&U age groups.

In 2025, there was an on-site WPA x Project Confidence activation which featured an Insta-video photo booth inviting participants to create social media content empowering themselves and others through water polo.
