Water Polo ACT's Junior Winter Competition is a Fast5s style competition. 

Rules

  • Five players in the water including the goal keeper
  • After a goal, game re-starts from half way
  • Excluded player must swim to the corner, rise to the surface and then may re-enter
  • Teams must have a minimum of six players, and a maximum of 13 - however, clubs are to consider the length of games (20 minutes) when structuring their teams. A playing roster of 8 is recommended.
  • Players may only play in one team per division.
  • Games are played 2x10 minute running time halves with 30sec shot clock. No time outs.
  • Teams must provide a referee for the game following their game. These referees must sign the scorecard to be paid.

Divisions

There are three divisions:

  • Beginners
    • designed to encourage participation and learning
    • aimed for players ages 13 and under with one season or less of playing experience
    • teams may nominate one (1) intermediate level player to play in the team to assist with development. This player may not play in goals and may not score goals (this player must be identified on the score sheet and to the referees prior to the start of each game
    • games will be half field, and played in the morning of the competition
    • teams are mixed sex
  • Intermediate
    • designed for players aged 13-16 (players under 12 may play in this competition) with one or more season's playing experience
    • generally these players will have no or limited representative experience (i.e. they may have played at one State or National tournament - U14s or U12s)
    • Beginners may play up in this division, but intermediate players may not play down (unless they are the one nominated experienced player)
    • teams are single sex - male or female
  • Advanced
    • designed for players aged 14-16 with multiple years' playing experience
    • intermediate players may play up in this division, but Advanced players may not play down
    • teams are single sex - male or female

When entering teams, clubs should consider the spirit of the competition and enter teams appropriate to the level of competition. 

Entry

Provide the following information:

  • Club name
  • Team name
  • Division
  • Contact name and email address

Teams may enter for a single tournament (i.e. one day) or for all three tournaments. Each weekend is played as a discrete competition.

Teams may consist of a single club, or a composite club. Clubs are to advise on the structure of their team upon entry.

Team entry closes on Tuesday 24 July, with player names submitted on Tuesday 31 July.

Draw will be released on Monday 30 July. Structure of the draw will depend on the number of teams entered per division.

Player registration

Players must be registered with the Club in which they are affiliated with. Unregistered players will not be permitted to participate in the competition.

Cost

Cost of the tournament is $26 per player per team. Pool entry is not included as part of the team entry fee.

Teams will be invoiced on the Thursday prior to the competition once team lists are received. 

Teams withdrawing from the competition after Monday 30 July will be invoiced a late withdrawal fee of $100.
