Center Forward (CF) is the most important attacking position within Water Polo. If a team has a capable CF not only does it create high-percentage scoring opportunities from the CF, it also allows more space for the other attacking players on the outside as they have more room to pass, move and shoot. A strong CF also creates more extra-man opportunities as most exclusions come from the position.
This makes the development of young CFs within ACT essential for the advancement of our teams within the community.
This program will consist of 4 sessions over 4 different weeks (July 29th, August 5th, August 19th and September 9th) at CISAC Belconnen.
The focuses of each session are as follows:
Week 1: 29th July 2023 (Focus on CF skill work and shooting)
Week 2: 5th August (Focus on CF leg work)
Week 3: 19th August (Focus on wrestling and positioning)
Week 4: 9th September (Overall incorporation of previous sessions + radar gun)
The aim of these sessions is to build an understanding of the CF position and also enhance the skills and more intricate parts of the position. This will include training of CF shooting/shot types, ball skills on the water (passing), turning, wrestling/grappling, positioning, post shots/positioning, movement, CB defence, and leg training (movement, med-ball, contact). Players will also have the added benefit of shot testing, video analysis and individualised feedback to create a unique development environment.
The program will be directed by Matt Wilson, a current Aussie Sharks Men's Squad member, who has played professionally overseas in the Spanish 1st Division, one of the world's top water polo leagues.
The cost of the program is $100, this does not include pool entry.
