Are you ready to roll with us

We are Wollongong's all-inclusive roller derby league. We cater to skaters from 7 years and up, and have been established in the Illawarra since 2009. We are home to three roller derby teams: The Steel City Derby Dolls (woman-identifying and non-binary team), Steel City Rollers (mixed team), and Nuts and Bolts (Junior League).

Want to join the league?

If you are new to roller derby, you will need to start in our Learn To Skate program. If you are a returning skater or have skated with another league, you might be able to start at a higher level.

Learn to Skate  program

Not interested in playing roller derby but would still like to learn to skate for fun and fitness? Our beginner-friendly roller skating class is for you. Our learn to skate program will teach you everything you need to know, from how to fall safely, weaving, backward skating, cross-overs, one-footed glides, and even jumping. We even have skates and some protective equipment free to hire as part of your lesson.

Our next adult four-week Learn To Skate and Learn program will commence on Tuesday, 17 February 2026 from 6:30pm - 8pm at URAC in the University of Wollongong. Following the program, skaters can choose to continue for fitness and progress their skating skills without the pressure to join in on any contact roller derby drills.

Junior roller derby and junior learn to skate

Nuts and Bolts are our Junior roller derby team and they are always looking for new skaters. Children aged 7 to 17 years are able to skate with our junior league, with the next intake for new skaters commencing on Tuesday 17th February 2026. Our junior classes take place at the same venue as our seniors, with classes running every Tuesday during school terms from 5pm to 6:30pm.
