Learn to Sail programs for Juniors
Whether you're a complete beginner, looking to return to the sport, or keen to get your kids involved, we offer a range of programs for all ages and skill levels. Every session is designed to be engaging and exciting, sparking a lifelong love for sailing.
Our junior sailing programs are the perfect way for kids to learn the basics of small boat sailing in a fun, safe, and encouraging environment. Guided by experienced instructors, juniors will build confidence on the water, develop essential sailing skills, and make new friends along the way.
Green Fleet
This is an entry-level racing fleet designed for sailors who have completed basic learn-to-sail programs and are new to racing. It focuses on building confidence, developing fundamental racing skills, and fostering a fun and supportive environment. Green Fleet sailors typically race on simple courses with coaching support on the water.

Whitsunday Sailing Club Off-Beach Operational Guidelines
1. Calling off racing is a decision to be made by Club Officials
· The decision for a sailor to race is up to the sailor themself and/or his or her parent
2. No racing/coaching in winds averaging over 25kts 1 hour prior to racing/coaching commencement.
3. Junior Sailing inside moorings may be conducted in 20kts sustained.
4. VHF CH72 Radio comms, closed-loop communications required. Parent volunteer to “Man” shore based radio. Instructors will brief new parents.
5. 1 safety boat per 6 sail boats.
6. The club will endeavour to maintain 2 persons in safety boats in over 20kts. Club’s expectation of parental volunteers to man safety boats, if qualified and called upon.
7. Self rig own dinghy encouraged. Coaching staff will assist where possible. All club equipment to be derigged and washed thoroughly, stored appropriately.
8. When a sailor is on the water, there must be a parent, guardian or designated person on contactable within close proximity of the club house.
9. Sunday Sailors:
Please follow the family roster as best as practicable. When unable to fulfil a rostered day, please find replacement coverage.
Family jobs include: Friday Night Raffles, Shore Based Radio, Safety Boat Driver, BBQ Duty.
10. Coaching for Juniors is paramount to their learning. Designated areas (classrooms) will be sectioned off for the teaching of juniors. Please resect this learning space. Any feedback prior or post sessions is welcomed.

Green Fleet is an introduction to coaching and learning to train.
Green Fleet promotes practicing the fundamental skills of sailing, introduces some foundation race skills through training activities in an environment that is enjoyable, without a competition focus.
