Welcome to Whitsunday Athletics Season 2024

At this stage there are technical issues that are preventing us from taking registrations for this season. As soon as the software has been fixed we will announce it and can start offically recording results. In the mean time we will have trial training and club days. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

As you may know we have had some changes resulting in a late start to our season.
While the committee is very new, we ask for you patience while we learn how things operate. In time we will be updating the website and will try to keep you informed as much as possible.

As we are all volunteers, we ask our community for assistance and feedback to help encourage our
Athletics Club to grow and pivot towards a long succesful future.
A big hats off welcome to our committee members and coaches of 2024, without you there is no Club

A bit about our history....
Whitsunday Athletics Club was originally formed in the 1970's by Rosemay Mitchell. She was a silver medalist in the 400m Australian National Championships before she started her coaching career at Proserpine State High School. In 1979 the Bowen Club had declining numbers and so joined Proserpine Club to become the Whitsunday Athletics Club. The orange from Queens Beach, Bowen Club and green from Proserpine Club joined to be come the proud colours athletes wear today. In the 1980's and 90's Little Athletics was also a strong pillar for the juniors to start out in but sadly lack of support saw the local Little Athletics Club fold and merge with Whitsundays Club until in 2008 they ended the affiliation with Little Athletics Australia and still is today under Australia Athletics, Queensland Athletics and Athletics North Queensland.

These notes were sourced from the 2014 WAC Handbook and complied by a Life Member Kerry Dorman. We invite any former members or local community who have any further details of the clubs history to please email the club to keep the history present.
