Nine hundred games is a number that stops you midscroll.
It’s the kind of milestone that makes even hardened sports fans sit up — especially when every single one of those games has been played in the same colours.
For Sharon Perkins, 55, from Pooraka, the milestone came quietly but powerfully, pulling on the Valley View Eagles uniform for the 900th time in the Central Districts Softball Association.
Founded in 1977, the Valley View Eagles have been part of Sharon’s life since she was seven years old.
“I remember feeling very small. I also remember wanting to be part of it.”
Sharon has taken the diamond for 45 consecutive seasons.
And last season, she wasn’t even sure she’d make it back.
For Sharon was diagnosed with breast cancer — a moment that forced her to consider whether her softball journey had reached its final innings.
“I honestly wasn’t sure I’d be able to continue playing.”
