Vic Park Squash

Member Code of Conduct

The Vic Park Squash Club (VPS) was created for Club members to enjoy themselves and maintain/improve their physical fitness by playing squash, building friendships with fellow members  and also with those against whom we play at other Clubs.  VPS values good sportsmanship and behaviour in our Club and whilst competing at other Clubs. Appropriate behaviour both on and off the court is both expected and required to be a member of our Squash Club. VPS is dedicated to providing its members and visitors with an environment in which they will be  treated civilly and with respect. This Code of Conduct sets out the expected behaviours of all Club  members, and it is expected that when visiting other squash clubs or participating in Club related  activity, members of VPS will uphold the standards of conduct outlined in this Code.

All members agree to conform their behaviour to the VPS  Code of Conduct and understand that if they fail to conform to this Code, that the VPS Committee may  impose sanctions, which may even include expulsion from the Club. Members acknowledge that they must be a fully financial member of the Vic Park Squash Club in order for their membership to remain active. A player may not be permitted to play in WA Squash sanctioned competition if their fees to the Club are more than two seasons outstanding. All members are to report any alleged incidents of prohibited conduct, whether they feel that it is directed towards themselves or someone else. The VPS committee will investigate and deal with all concerns, complaints, or incidents in a fair and timely manner while respecting the complainant’s privacy to the extent  possible.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOURS

The expected behaviours of all members of the Vic Park Squash Club include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Conduct oneself with integrity – if you win, don’t rub it in. If you lose, don’t make excuses. Be modest in victory, and gracious in defeat.
  2. Treat others with courtesy, and respect the privacy of all members.
  3. Exhibit good sportsmanship and fairness both on and off court. Applaud good play, whether it be by your team or the opposition.
  4. Play by the rules and accept the referee’s decisions as final. Shake your opponent’s hand, and thank match officials at the end of your match.
  5. Be respectful to, and never argue with, volunteers running events. Without them we would not have a competition. To hear ‘thank you’ means a lot to our volunteers/committee members.
  6. Take care in ensuring that the Club’s facilities are used responsibly and not damaged. And if things are broken, let us know!
  7. Abide by all WA Squash policies and guidelines.
  8. When participating in events at other squash clubs, comply with their rules and regulations.

PROHIBITED CONDUCT

Behaviours which may be contrary to this Code include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Behaviour that demeans, ridicules, or embarrasses a club member, staff member, or visitor. This  includes comments, gestures, and jokes which may adversely impact the individual’s enjoyment of  the Club.
  2. Verbal abuse, belittling, or excessive swearing. Verbal abuse of match officials (referees) and/or other players, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent is not acceptable or permitted.
  3. Over-zealous (aggressive) play or deliberate contact between players or playing equipment.
  4. Bullying, mistreatment, intimidation or teasing which creates an uncomfortable environment.
  5. Theft of any kind.
