Sailing & Racing

This is when the club truly comes alive with sailing activity. During the summer season, members enjoy regular racing on Saturday afternoons once the wind has filled in, and on Sunday mornings before the heat of the day sets in. Race courses are laid according to the prevailing wind direction, ensuring varied and enjoyable sailing conditions.
Vogelvlei Yacht Club is blessed with a vast expanse of fresh water that provides an exceptional sailing environment. Majestic mountain ranges form a spectacular backdrop on one side, while the shoreline offers secluded bays and pebble beaches waiting to be explored.
Our members sail a variety of classes, with a strong multihull fleet complemented by an active dinghy fleet. Handicap racing allows sailors of different boat classes and abilities to compete together, creating a fun, inclusive, and competitive atmosphere on the water.
Developing the next generation of sailors is an important part of club life. Young sailors are encouraged to get involved through regular coaching, fun sailing activities, and skills development in a safe and supportive environment. Dedicated Junior and Youth Sailing weekends through the season provide opportunities to learn, make friends, gain confidence on the water, and enjoy sailing, whether they are beginners or aspiring racers.
Regattas are professionally managed by our dedicated race management and safety volunteers, while visiting sailors from other clubs are welcomed with our warm hospitality. After racing, members and guests gather at the clubhouse to relax, share stories from the day's sailing, enjoy a drink from the well-stocked bar, and unwind around the lit braai fires.
The combination of excellent sailing conditions, a vibrant racing calendar, active youth development, and a friendly club atmosphere makes Vogelvlei Yacht Club a special place to sail for sailors of all ages and abilities.
