Welcome to SA Sailing,
We thank you for for choosing to be a part of this exciting sport be it recreationally or competitively
- In registering with SA Sailing you hereby agree to abide to its Constitution and its Bylaws.
- To adhere to the World Sailing rules of Sailing and regulations.
- To adhere to and comply to SAMSA regulations and requirements as they apply
- You confirm and acknowledge that, for the purpose of enhancing member benefits, SA Sailing may be called apon to share some particulars in regards to its membership with appointed partners, governmental bodies and/or its affliated clubs and assosciations from time to time.
Access and use, or causing access and use, of this computer system by anyone other than as permitted by SA Sailing is strictly prohibited by SA Sailing. Unauthorised users may be subject to criminal and civil penalties.
SA Sailing staff should be familiar with the confidentiality, privacy and communications policies related to this system.
The use of this system is routinely monitored and recorded, and anyone accessing this system consents to such monitoring and recording.

(Affiliate organisation, club, class, members, volunteers, Non-member registered boat owners or skippers ticket holders/applicants, SA Sailing Course attendees, retail clients.)
- Introduction

- The Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPI”) came into full effect on 1 July 2020.

- The purpose of POPI includes inter alia, giving effect to the right to privacy, regulating the way in which personal information must be processed and providing rights and remedies in circumstances where the provisions of POPI are contravened.

- South African Sailing (herein referred to S A Sailing)

- Personal information includes but is not limited to a member’s name, SA Sailing provides a Member/Profile Number for Life. Information will be collected as reasonably necessary for SA Sailing’s functions and activities. Such information will vary depending on the circumstances in and purposes for which the information was collected. It may include, but is not limited to, the following:

- Contact details (name, email, postal address, phone number);
- Date of birth;
- Gender;
- Identity or Passport number;
- Insurance details;
- Medical Aid Information
- Employment history;
- Qualifications and accreditation;
- Communication history with SA Sailing;
- Next of Kin; is for emergency contact details in the event of an injury or medical emergency while participating in sailing.
- Racial or ethnic origin;
- Criminal record;
- Health information.
Where the information of a minor is collected a competent person, Parent or Guardian must provide consent for the use of the above information.
The above information will be used for the purposes of subscriptions and entry fees and any other Personal Information required in order to conclude the functions, events, activities and marketing of SA Sailing.

- In accordance with the provisions of POPI, South African Sailing will implement appropriate and reasonable security safeguards in order to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of personal information in its possession and/or under its control through revSPORT.
- Personal Information/ Special Personal Information

- The South African Sailing processes personal information/special personal information of its members and affiliates as defined in POPI in accordance with the provisions of both POPI Act and its POPI Policy.

- The South African Sailing will collect and process personal information and the special personal information of a member for inter alia the following specific purposes.
2.2.1 SA Sailing collects personal information in order to carry out its functions, including to provide products and services and enable participation in activities and events of SA Sailing, its affiliates clubs, classes and Recognised Training or Sailing Centres.
SA Sailing, and third parties to whom we may disclose personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy, may collect, hold and use your personal information for the purposes listed below:
- To verify your identity.
- Complete background checks; where necessary for appointments and accreditations or legislation requirements.
- Research, develop, run, administer, and market competitions, programs, activities, and other events relating to sailing or other sports.
- To process membership applications, Race Officials, Instructors, Coaches, certification and training course applications, domestic, international, and continental regatta entries, reporting to World Sailing, SRSA, SASCOC, SAMSA and Regional Sports Bodies.
- Research, develop and market products, services, merchandise and special offers made available by us and third parties including but not limited to our member associations classes and clubs, other sailing associations or our licensees, suppliers and sponsors.
- Respond to emergency situations involving or requiring medical treatment;
- Administer, manage and provide you with access to the SA Sailing website and our National Database; and
- Keep you informed of news and information relating to various SA Sailing or Sailing events, activities and opportunities via various mediums.
- To plan programs operated by SA Sailing in accordance with special health needs of participants;
- Insurance purposes;
- To carry out research to prepare submissions to Government or to plan events and activities; and
- In case of an accident occurring during a program or event, to provide assistance.

- In view of the aforementioned the Member hereby expressly consents to:-

- SA Sailing affiliates and other organisations involved in Sailing and sporting programs in South Africa;
- Our member associations, clubs, accredited sailing centres and sailing classes;
- Companies we engage to carry out functions and activities on SA Sailing’s behalf, including direct marketing;
- Our professional advisers, including accountants, auditors and lawyers;
- Our insurers;
- Companies we engage to partner towards providing member benefits; and
- Relevant sporting bodies such as, but not limited to, World Sailing, African Sailing Confederation, South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), SA Sports Anti-Doping Authority, Sport Science Institute of South Africa, Provincial and District Institutes and Academies of Sport, SA Commonwealth Games Association, various National Sporting bodies, Regional and District Departments of sport.

3.1 the transfer of the personal information/special personal information to any affiliate and or recognised Class or Club or any water sports regulatory body and/or any third parties including the SA Sailing’s Marketing Agents /contractors authorised by SA Sailing outside of the Republic of South Africa including World Sailing for the specific purposes for which it was collected as set out above. In this regard, SA Sailing will only transfer personal information outside of the Republic of South Africa or transborder information flow in accordance with the provisions of POPIA and Australian Privacy Act, in relation to revolutionise Sport and GDPR in relation to World Sailing.
The personal information/special personal information will be stored by the SA Sailing in accordance with its POPI Policy, which is available upon request and on the website.
Vogelvlei Yacht Club
By submitting this application for Membership to Vogelvlei Yacht Club, all applicants names contained in this form acknowledge and agree;
Indemnity:
Vogelvlei Yacht Club (VYC) and its Members, affiliates, employees, representatives or contractors, accept no liability or responsibility for the death, injury, or harm to any person or for the loss of, or damage to, any property or possessions of any person whether arising from negligence or otherwise.
All Members, as well as their visitors and guest, hereby acknowledge all liability and responsibility relating to any and all risks that may arise from the activities they partake while at VYC.
Popi Act and Communication:
Applicants hereby allow their names and photographs to be posted to the notice club board for the duration of the probation period. Applicants consents to VYC to process their personal information voluntarily and unconditionally for the purpose of record keeping, marketing and communication, applicants understand the purposes for which their personal information is required by VYC. VYC will comply with all POPI obligations to protect the personal information against unauthorized and unlawful
access and will store the information securely for the purpose for which it was collected.
Safeguarding:
Sailing South Africa and VYC are aligned to the national Safeguarding Policy for vulnerable persons within our sport with the aim to create an environment that protects all members from harassment and abuse. Applicants hereby agree to adhere to National Safeguarding Policy and that if deemed necessary, agree to the requisite Police Clearance Checks.
Club Constitution and By-Laws:
Applicants hereby confirm that they have read, understood and agree to abide by the rules and regulations contained within the Club Constitution and By-laws.
Probation Period:
Accepted applications are subject to a six month probation period where Commitment and interest in the club will be monitored. The committee reserves the right to terminate membership if no such commitment or interest is observed during that period. Probationary members may not rent sheds or sites, nor purchase caravans or cabins from existing members.
