Event information
As we transition into the winter period, we wanted to provide a brief overview of what players and families can expect from the winter training program.
Importantly, winter should not be seen as the “off-season,” but rather as the key development phase of the year. It is the time when athletes build the technical skills, fitness and tactical understanding that underpin performance in the summer competition season.
Typical Winter Training Structure
-
2–3 water polo sessions per week focusing on skills, tactics and game understanding
-
1–2 strength and conditioning sessions (gym or land-based training)
-
Inhouse squad swimming for athletes who already swim competitively, to maintain aerobic conditioning and learn water polo swimming techniques
Development Focus
-
Individual skill development
-
Tactical awareness and game knowledge
-
Fitness and strength building
-
Individual Player Programs and assessments to help guide future pathways
Additional Opportunities
Winter may also include a number of optional development opportunities such as:
-
Team-building activities
-
Intrastate or regional training camps
-
Interstate tournaments or camps
-
Overseas tours or training experiences
These opportunities are designed to help players grow both as athletes and as teammates, while continuing to strengthen the club culture.
Participation in additional activities will generally be optional, but they can provide valuable experience for players looking to further develop their game.
More details on specific training times and opportunities will be shared as winter planning progresses.
