Congratulations Bronnie!

Published Mon 16 Aug 2021

We were all there to cheer on Bronwyn and Giorgia (from Westies) in the Women's Eight in their final at the Tokyo Olympics.

The women got away to a great start and were sitting second at the 500m mark.

Our hearts were in our mouths as we lifted the roof of Rowing WA headquarters.

Australia finished 5th in a time of 6:03.92 in an exciting race which saw Canada win gold for the first time (in rowing) since 1996, ending the USA's dominance in the event.

The final placings:  Canada (5:59.13), New Zealand, China, USA, Australia and Romania.

We'd also like to congratulate all our WA rowers.  Annabelle McIntyre (Freo) who brought home gold in the women's four and also rowed in the pair, Jack Cleary (Westies) who won bronze in the men's quad, and Josh Hicks (Swannies) who represented us in the men's pair.

Well done Bronnie, looking forward to seeing you back at the club.  You done us proud.
