UQ Sport is staging the very popular annual 1500m Classic in 2025 at the UQ Sport Athletics Centre Track.

The 1500m Classic is a competitive middle-distance race hosted at The University of Queensland since 2004. The event is recognised as a World Athletics Permit Meet.

The race draws junior athletes, university students, elite competitors and spectators to the UQ Sport Athletics Centre for an unforgettable night of racing. The event features only 1500m races ranging from a 1500m race walk to school age events, and the headlined Men’s and Women’s Classic events. There is also a total prize purse across the meet valued at over $5,000 made up of cash prizes and product & vouchers from sponsors to be won, with the winner of the elite Open 1500m Mens & Women's races walking away with $600 cash, there is also cash prizes on offer to the podium finishers of the male & female Classic races as well as the first school-aged (13-18 year) races, with the winner of the first school aged race earning $250!

In order to enter athletes must be registered with Queensland Athletics or another State Athletics Association. Queensland athletes who are not a member of a club, may register with Queensland Athletics as a Base Member by visiting https://qldathletics.org.au/index.cfm/join/

A proposed timetable of races will be on  the Queensland Athletics website at https://www.qldathletics.org.au/index.cfm/competition/.  After entries close on October 28th, the races will  be seeded and a final timetable of races, based on the number of entries, will be generated.  This timetable and race start lists will be posted on the QA websites, and emailed to all the athletes who have entered, by the afternoon of October 29th.  Guidelines for how the meet will be conducted will also be emailed on October 29th.
